Shoei Sugiyama has attained all that he has wanted in life. But he is still depressed. One day, he gathers up the courage to sign up for dancing lessons. He hopes they will rid his depression and help him lower his burden and get his life back together. However, ballroom dancing isn't something common in Japan so that he hesitates whether to learn dancing or to give up.

Finally, he decides to reach out to an instruct Mai (Tamiyo Kusakari) or he has an interest in and proceeds to take lessons. After attending a few lessons, he realized that Mai (Tamiyo Kusakari) is a dancer who is not in the traditional styles of Japan, but in the flamboyant, gliding, passionate dances of the West. Sugiyama became devoted to dancing. This arouse the zest of his wife in finding out why he is out so late all the time, and coming home smelling of other women. Her wife found a detective to check it out. In Japan ballroom dancing is not highly welcomed.

The idea that a husband and wife should embrace and dance in front of others is beyond embarrassment. However, to go out dancing with someone else would be misunderstood and prove more shameful. But there's still people dancing. They regard that as a good way to relax and enjoy. Despite the threat of losing face by participating in such an "undignified" public events, Sugiyama, however, soon discovers that he has a natural aptitude and a natural love for dancing, much greater than the dismay of his perplexed wife and daughter.
