Job Crisis And Many People example essay topic

1,286 words
As we all know the Great depression is time in American history that will not be forgotten. Depression struck forcing people to live with out jobs. Many businesses struggled to survive along with many people. The twenty's were a boom while the thirties were a bust. This same thing is happening now. Surely smaller in degree to the Great Depression but what makes this so bad is the span over the years that our boom and musts occur.

In 1992 and in 1996 nation fell into a job crisis and many people went with out jobs. In 1996 108,000 jobs lost in July of 2000. Come June of 2001 30,000 jobs were formed (U. S Job Losses). What a bust this is for such numbers to decline like this. Until the following year the number of people with jobs would rise.

People are going with out jobs while companies are making there annual profits, many people are losing jobs due to companies moving out of the united states, so what will the prediction be for the U. S economical growth be in 2003. In 2002 it was expected that around 24 million job opportunities would be possible but not anymore. Why is this it is because U. S is global economical slowdown. Major predictions like this come from International Labor organization. According to the ILO more then one billion people live on less then one dollar a day (Job Losses To). This is a statistic worldwide.

There are a few things that differ the current economical downfall to the economical down fall of the thirties. Many Asian countries were in a boom back in the thirties but now many Asian countries are in this economical downfall. But U. S is just so big that if it does anything then the rest of the world can be affected. As we get older we have to realize that we will choose a job career and will hopefully be satisfied with it.

Well what is currently happening are several things. College graduates right now are having trouble getting job. And over the past year job market had cooled off at a exponential rate. Making the job search more of a competition for recent graduates and people returning from career brakes or even a vacation (Clark, Emma). Could you imagine going on a vacation and you come home and you find out that you have been replace.

This is an example to just show that there are barely enough jobs for people. The ratio of people with out jobs to the jobs being advertised is nowhere near equal. But why is this really. It could be broken down to what is greed. Greed of companies who are succeeding. Many businesses see the stock market pummeled to new lows.

Few people our age may remember the highs in the mid 1990's. When the Dow Jones was up to around 11,000 points compared to its now average around 9,000 and the Nasdaq was before around 2,100 points while it now averages lows around 1,500 (Clark, Emma). Many companies see the insecurity of the market and are just deciding to bank their profits. With companies not putting money into the stocks they are hurting people even more.

The market is continues to fall and regular people are losing money. Though businesses are fine and making their earnings. So with the businesses running fine they feel that they can lay off a few people. And go into a state where they do not hire.

One of the most important reasons jobs are being lost is because business's like Hewlett Packard, general motors, Kodak, Perdue farms (Scherer, Ron). Along with many other corporate companies are stating up or adding more factories on the Asian continent. This is nothing new certainly and many things are mad in other countries. But there is going to be a big change. U. S imports will be as high as $230 billion and possibly more for the duration of the next 5-year. And for example textile industry is estimating it will loose 150,000 jobs (U. S Job Losses). 150,000 people with out jobs is sort of like everyone in Naperville, Illinois with out a job.

Recently a few years ago Motorola closed a Illinois plant putting many people with out jobs. Many car companies are moving to Mexico or Canada. Most of the companies moving out of the U. S are technology companies. Ones like Motorola, it sort of makes sense because for a company to make a phone now days it is like a printing press back in 19th century. Cars are the same way; people are being replaced by machines or people who will do the jobs for cheaper.

One thing that is going to stay is the small corporate businesses. What these are just really the your Piggy Wiggly, Clubs, Home Depot's, K-Mart. These are the jobs that are most secure. But they are also the jobs for people not making the big money. Many people have to go to the big corporate companies to make the money to support a family, buy a house, pay a mortgage. Economists are people who really think that they know why the martial status of our country is in such a slum.

In 2003 from a survey of 55 economists are c laming that increase in corporate spending would steady the economical growth. So if a lot of major companies put money in stocks for example then this year's economy should be set. And if it is set then it can certainly still get better but it will not get worse. In 2002 foundation was being set for the 2003 and in 2002 numbers were really low.

The economy in 2002 grew 1% from 2001. What makes up the economy are businesses, stocks, jobs any many other things. Assuming the economical growth goes as predicted the national unemployment rate could fall. 3% from its current rate (Economist Upbeat). This may seem like a very small amount but think of the opposite.

It is not rising and our economy is getting better. That whole. 3% is a national number and that could just very well be putting 1 million people back into work. Many companies are not taking care of there workers and are laying people off and banking there profits, as well many companies are moving to the Asian continent to begin production of product to be sent to the U. S, but what will the 2003 year come to all of those who are currently unemployed? Jobs are important to life and there should be no people on welfare. It should not be like Darwin's Survival of the Fittest when it comes to having a job.

Companies should just rely on the people who they have. There is little that can be done over this issue of job unemployment. It is something more or less to think about. You will go to school to a good college major in what you want to practice and then go to a practice and get turned down. Right now people of our age can do little, and our parents can do little.

Your future could very well be in the hands of any cooperate company.
