The truth is not all rapes are the same. The victim doesn't have to be a young beautiful Female, older woman, men and kids get raped to. The victims, rapists, and motivation can be very different depending on the one committing the crime. Date rape is a controversial and ambiguous crime. There has been much debate regarding the definition, prevalence, and importance of date rate in the past couples of years. This uncertainty is evident in the attitudes of date rape victims and offenders.
Rape in marriages was only criminalized in the 1970's. This is a reflection of the tolerance in our society towards rape in intimate relationships. Very few cases are even prosecuted in court. Sexual assault includes any sexual activity carried out against the will of the victim through the use of violence, coercion, intimidation even if it did not end in penetration (ABS 1996).
Rape doesn't have to always be penetration but can be the fondling of ones genitals without the victim willingly allowing them to. Date rape is a type of sexual assault where the victim and the offender are in, or have been in, some form of personal or social relationships, ranging from a first date to a long-term relationship. Date rape may involve sex that leaves the victim feeling confused and traumatized. The victims are usually confused because they are still thinking about how they knew the assailant from work, mutual friends, or at school. The issue of sexual consent is a big problem of date rape. Any type of sex forced on a date or person who has not consented is rape.
In our society people think that since you " re in a relationship you could never refuse sexual encounters. Intimate relationships are one of the main reasons date rape is not recognized as a serious issue. Sexual consent by force is just wrong and shouldn't be used. People should just accept the word "no" and be done with it.
The fact is that they still go through great extents to have sex with a person even like blackmail. Males use their masculine strength to over power their victims by forcing there bodies down and holding there arms. Many young boys feel that as long as they can get away with it, they will continue to force sexual intercourse on a female. Now a day's drugs have been used to seduce people into having sexual relations.
Offenders sometimes spike their victim's drink in order to dope them up. Spiking drinks usually occurs at parties, clubs, or any other types of crowded places. The top drug used for this reason is (Rohypnol). Rohypnol is used for insomnia but people use it for date raping.
These types of drugs usually make the person sleepy, unconscious; lose memory, or kind of sexual depending on the victim. By using drugs on the victim after the event of rape the victims will not be able to identify if he / she has been raped or who they were raped by (IACP 1999). Just like drugs people also use Alcohol to enhance the victim's sexual feelings. Alcohol can cloud judgment during a sexual encounter, reducing the ability for the victim to resist unwanted sexual advances, and is sometimes used as an excuse to justify sexually manipulated behavior (Richardson and Hammock 1991).
When a person is raped based on drinking too much he / she may feel embarrassed or nasty because they could have prevented the occurrence if they watch how much they consumed. Date rape can be prevented by being aware or your surroundings. This doesn't mean all rapes can be prevented. To combat date rape, it is necessary for women to understand what is happening, to avoid the situations and people that hold the potential for rape, and learn the methods to follow when confused. Avoiding date rape means avoiding acquaintance rapists. Identifying these men is no easy task; some are even fine and cute.
But you just have to recognize the clues. Emotional abuses towards you, tells you who you may be friends with, talks negatively about women in general, gets jealous for no reason, and acts violent or very flashy of the body physique. Women also need to avoid the wrong kinds of places and don't set themselves of for failure by not setting limits.
