This was it. This is the fun, the joy, the choices, the friends, the places, the freedom I had been looking forward to for over three months. The past months had been spent in my room, away from the TV, from the computer, the phone but most importantly, away from human contact. I went to school and from school. That was the only time I got to see the world. School did not count as the world to me.
But finally, it was the last day of the semester and I was not sticking around: I was free to go. Unfortunately, I had to be out of the house by 5: 45 the next morning; therefore, going out at night was out of the question. Instead, I opted for ice cream with my best friends in the afternoon. It was the perfect day: the air was warm, the sun bright and Jen's convertible was a perfect fit. I stayed away from my house as long as possible because I had seen enough of it lately. When my friends dropped me off, they came in to say hi to my mom and let her know that she would be seeing much more of them now.
Just as they walked out, my mom's voice got deep. Her rumble. This was bad news. The bass in her voice made the ground shake, which made my knees shake, which made my heart violently pound.
"Where have you been?" And these last hours I had spent glorifying my survival, turned to the last time I experienced the world for a very long time..
