These people are not true leaders. True leaders are the belaboring teachers and the intellectual speakers. These are the people who show that leadership is an action, not a position. Touching lives and affecting the outcome of so many futures a teacher is the epitome of a leader.
Just as a leader has his or her own style, a teacher's way of motivating his / her students, also plays an important role for a students success. Another remarkable leader is the untouchable Martin Luther King Jr. The greatness of Martin Luther King Jr. is shown everywhere. Nearly every major city in the U.S. has a street or school named after him. It is a measure of how sorely his achievements are misunderstood that most of them are located in black neighborhoods. Three decades after King was gunned down on a motel balcony in Memphis, Tenn., he is still regarded mainly as the black leader of a movement for black equality. That assessment, while accurate, is far too restrictive.
For all King did to free blacks from segregation, whites may owe him the greatest debt. He liberated them from the burden of America's centuries-old bigotry about race. It is only because of King and the movement that he led that the U.S. can claim to be the leader of the 'free world' without inviting smirks of contempt and disbelief. Had he and the blacks and whites that marched beside him failed, vast regions of the U.S. would have remained morally similar from South Africa under separation, with terrible consequences for America's standing among nations. While these are only two examples, leaders are ubiquitous in this world. Franklin Roosevelt, Ben Franklin, and even a simple military man who is in the Army to serve this country.
All people can become a leader in any shape or form, but it is the people who stay a leader and continue to influence others, which makes a substantive impact on society. These are the people who take on leadership as an action, not a position.
