Learning Business Skills example essay topic
My personal goals are also important to success in the workplace. Enriching knowledge, learning new skills, breaking bad habits, and the ability to prioritize are noble goals to achieve during a college level education. My mother always told me that knowledge is the key to success. Finally, after many years I am taking these words of wisdom to heart. Learning as much as I can, about as many subjects as I can is one of my main goals in achieving a higher education. I believe I am beginning a life long journey which will not end until I end.
I believe my mother was right. Both her and my father holds degrees in different fields. My mother holds a Masters degree in American History. She taught Native American History and a Southern California university for many years. My father holds a Masters degree in Psychology. I, like my mother, am very interested in history.
I believe I will follow in her footsteps and receive knowledge in history until I achieve a Masters degree in history. She was right all along; knowledge is the key to success. However, it is not the only important goal I intend to achieve. Skills are important in any career. Computer, management, and business skills are among a few of the skills I intend to develop during my recent college endeavor. In this day and age it is imperative to learn how to use the computer.
Almost every job, in today's market, requires computer skills. In addition to computer skills, I must learn management skills. The ability to manage people is an important skill in the business world. Finally, maybe most important to a business degree is learning business skills. Managing money and managing people are a few of the skills I intend to learn while at the University of Phoenix.
These skills will help me remain current in today's business market. This is yet another fine goal to achieve, but my goal list continues. One of the many bad habits I need to break is procrastination. Sometimes I wait until the last minute to accomplish a task, such as an essay, making dinner, or even going to bed.
I need to learn how to identify tasks and put them in order. Another bad habit I have is being too wordy on assignments. Because I often wait until the last minute to accomplish an assignment I over compensate with paragraphs and sentences that never seem to end. Finally, my worst habit of all is reading too much of a subject which I am not studying. Often I will log on to the and begin surfing for hours, reading anything and everything. Reading is not bad and you can learn a lot from the, but I stay logged on too long and forget about the rest of the world, and forget about assignments.
Breaking these habits will be one of my many goals to achieve which brings me to my final goal at this time. Knowledge and skills are advantageous goals to achieve. Yet, I am sure I will achieve none of these goals with out learning how to prioritize. Before I began this adventure I thought I was organized.
When I returned to college I had no idea of the amount of work which was entailed. I found myself writing lengthy essays in the early morning hours and in the dark of the night. My schedule was in disarray. One of my goals I hope to achieve is learning how to juggle my schedule and cause less stress on my brain and body.
Without knowledge teachers could not teach. Without knowledge students could not learn. Without skills sales people could not sell. Without skills writers could not write.
Without the ability to prioritize I will have a tough time in college. Goals set in the early stages of a college education are important to the learning process. Seeking and conquering these goals can in itself be a very knowledgeable experience.
