Learning Experience example essay topic
I am sure I will obtain new goals during the course of my learning adventure. I am very excited about the learning styles I have heard about in class, and have been reading about in the Peek Learning book. The goal of self-improvement is the most important, and it takes many forms. It is all the small things, like remembering to bring a pen to class, or learning to work well with others. It is also the big things, like proving that I can accomplish what I once thought impossible. With my insufficient public education, I have always felt I had no place in a university of any kind.
I tried once right out of high school, but I was young and ill prepared. I had no idea how to overcome my deficiencies, I was lost from day one. That experience solidified what I had already thought to be true, that I could never have success in higher education at the university level. Now that I am older, I have more confidence in my abilities to learn, and to deal with my learning issues.
I have set my sights back on higher education once more. I am going to apply what I have learned since leaving high school, and try to take advantage of new learning styles. I am also looking forward to meeting new people. I feel this can also be a learning experience. I currently have my work circle and my home circle. I have now added a new circle, my school circle.
At the University of Phoenix I should be able to meet, and interact with a more diverse group of people. One of my constant goals is to be a good role model to my children. I grew up in a house where neither of my parents attended college. I was never discouraged from going to college, but I was never guided in that direction either. I have always stressed the importance of education to my kids.
I need to show my children how important it is as well. Even now, as they watch me sit and work on this paper they can see it has importance. I know they will be watching, and listening during my time at the University of Phoenix. Once I complete my degree I hope they will see the benefit, and see that they too should push themselves to continue to learn their whole lives. I want to gain confidence though knowledge and success. At times I feel unsure of my abilities.
At times I tend to be quiet in meetings, even if I have good input, because I lack the confidence to put my ideas out there for debate. I feel that by returning to school, and having success in my learning endeavor, I can gain not only the helpful knowledge, but the confidence as well. The field I am in requires me to stay up on current technology. It is a challenge in its self just to keep up. I read white papers, tech manuals, or even go to classes sometimes. I have many sources to help keep me current.
I do some of it because I like what I do, but I also do it because it is my job. So, I have no choice if I want to get paid. Returning to school, I have set a goal to challenge myself to learn for myself. I want to read a book purely to gain the knowledge, go to class for the experience, not because I am getting paid to do it. The truth is, I have done fine without a college degree. I have a job that pays me well and keeps me challenged.
Even so, I would like to see what benefits a college degree may provide. I feel like without college experience I have missed something. I am not sure what yet, but that is why I am here, to learn, to seek new opportunities, to explore.
