Does your mind wander and take interest in small, seemingly pointless attributes of your day... or do you let the everyday simplicities of life pass by with out ever stopping to wonder if there could be more? The previous excerpt from Alice In Wonderland simulates the feelings and thoughts that Louis L'Amour entertains himself with daily. Every reader should learn from L'Amour and apply new techniques to his or her lifestyle in order to achieve a more vivid and colorful outlook on life. Not only does L'Amour's open-minded style of living affect everyone he meets, but also opens up many new possibilities of learning.

L'Amour's extreme interest in life dates back to his earlier years. He shows us how he does not allow society to govern the way he lives his life, but discovers new ways to gain the knowledge and respect that his fellow peers have obtained. According to the pre-reading in Louis L'Amour's Education Of A Wandering Man, "L'Amour dropped out of high school when he was 15 and wandered around the country, working odd jobs as a lumberjack, elephant handler, and longshoreman". The background that L'Amour holds clearly shows us how uniquely he chose to live his life. Unlike fellow classmates, L'Amour makes the decision to go against society's norm, and drop out of school. Not knowing whether one day he will settle down with a steady job, L'Amour's personality simply cannot let the pressures of society distract him from enjoying the small, unique jobs that unfold before him.

However, L'Amour eventually finds the career that not only supports his lifestyle, but also allows him to share his thoughts and feelings with the world. After serving in World War II, L'Amour becomes a writer; publishing over three books a year using this newly discovered love of writing. L'Amour's personality is not the only decern ing point in his ability to be so very intuitive and open-minded. There are many factors of influence, one of which is L'Amours way of thinking.

By definition, the theory of the structure and functions of the mind suggests that the two different sides of the brain control two different "modes" of thinking. It also states that each person prefers one "mode" from the other. L'Amour most likely exercises the right side of the brain. Experimentation has shown that the right side of the brain is random, intuitive, holistic, and subjective. It is possible to exercise the right side of the brain by creative thinking and art. This synthesizing way of thinking is partly what led L'Amour through his life and molded him into the man he has become.

It is what upheld his interest in life and motivated his wandering curiosity. This learning style allowed L'Amore to become what he really and truly wanted to be as oppose to choosing a career solely for money and possessions. The learning style of Louis L'Amour is very new and unknown by most but can be just as useful and efficient as the more logical standards of learning used by most. Louis L'Amore has an effect on each and every person he meets whether it is a positive or negative one. To me, L'Amore is a very interesting person of whom I look up to and would like to be so care free and allow myself to not have to uphold to standards of society but instead be happy with life itself. I am astounded at how he became of such great wealth and fame by simply living his life the way he pleased and giving only thought to the things that interest him.

However, not all people are able to accept the fact that L'Amore did not go to college or any institution and has nothing to owe his wealth and knowledge to but himself. "Once, when hitchhiking, I was picked up by a professor from some small college. The professor was a pedantic man of limited imagination and seemed almost offended that I was reading such a book. Obviously I did not fit some category in which he decided I belonged, and when he dropped me off in town, I suspect he was relived to be rid of me".

This Passage written by L'Amore proves the fact that L'Amore himself has effects on the people he meets everyday. The professor, with his "limited imagination" decides that L'Amore could in no way or fashion ever live up to the standard that the normal everyday college student upholds. It seems to insult the professor that L'Amore is even reading such a book without being told to when in fact the professor himself is not even as knowledgeable as L'Amore. Instead of taking advice from L'Amore, the professor would rather go about his everyday life, being too proud to ever consider the thought that L'Amore might be just as knowledgeable as himself, without a college degree. Every reader should learn from L'Amore and take interest in the small everyday things. Even though L'Amore was just living his life, not trying to make an impression on anyone, he ended up impacting the world with his thoughts and ideas.

L'Amore's combination of personality, learning style, choices, and thoughts make him into the extraordinary man he has become, if anything readers should really read into his works and try to understand his complex style of living a little better. The world would be so much more interesting if everyone could take the small things in life and further the imagination, who knows what one could discover with an open-mind and wandering imagination!
