Leeds Fan For Years example essay topic

Here I am, Tom Banks sitting in my trusty old armchair ready and waiting. I never miss it you know 6 o'clock on the dot here I am without fail. Big football fan you see. I've been a Leeds Fan for years, far too long for my old brain to remember but I'll tell you one thing, we " ve never been this bad.

Football's changed you know but you are all probably too young to remember when it wasn't all about the money, it was about the quality on the pitch, not the millions off it. Although I don't go to Ell and Road that often anymore, it is my back you see, when you get to my age your bones aren't up to much good. Still go there sometimes though for the big games. I haven't got a season ticket any more I used to but I can't afford one these days.

It was a stroke of luck anyway that I could ever afford to buy one, was just lucky enough to land myself a prestigious job at Blake's Print shop which was a big step for a lad from my background. Anyway I find it hard to watch a team I've been supporting for years fading away into the mist. All started to go wrong after the departure of David O Leary that's my personal opinion anyway. He was a good manager and he brought a lot of success to the club. European Success was what he brought and that was what a club like us needed, put on us the map as they say. Don't time fly, I still remember that tragic clash with Galatasary when two Leeds fans lost their lives on the streets of Istanbul.

I know fighting ruins Football and this is the main reason why England hasn't hosted the World Cup since 1966. We all remember that year no matter how old we are except I probably remember it more than others do. Those were the golden days of football. Now where were we Oh yeah, I remember Leeds and Galatasary. I remember those days as if it was yesterday, I still remember the names Kevin Speight and Chris Loftus who were brutally stabbed and killed by those Turkish yobs. My bones may be creaking but there is still white stuff in the old brain yet.

I still hate the Turks to this very day with all my heart for that night. The flowers and the scenes outside the ground after the days that followed were a picture in itself. Flowers and scarves flooded around the statue of one of the Leeds greatest, Billy Bremner. I laid mine down by the statue, a bunch of pretty blooms from the market stall down the street I'm on a pension you see so I couldn't afford a fancy arrangement. Those sort of days don't go away with someone as old as me.

I remember a tear falling down my face as I looked around and saw the Leeds fans united, as it should be. I remember seeing them all cry as they read the messages on the flowers and the clubs song echoed in the silent air, Marching on Together. This was one of the saddest days in football. There were others of course like the Munich plane crash and of course Hillsborough, but those are different stories.

I don't tell war stories to my grandchildren I tell stories about football because wars a terrible thing and I try to block that from my brain. I've seen a lot of players come and go over the years especially now under the management of El Tel and under the watchful eye of Peter Risdale. Its not football anymore, it's a business. It ruins the game because of all the money involved, like it just said on the news clubs like Leeds can't afford to keep their players anymore. They have lived the dream now they must sell to live the dream again or that's what it said. It's all about the money basically, so we have to sell our players.

We " ve just sold Woodgate to Newcastle United. They got nine million that's not bad for a defender in this day and age. That's what the press conference was all about. Peter Risdale told El Tel he wouldn't have to sell Woodgate if he sold Robbie Fowler to Manchester City. They are not the only two to go in the Leeds United clear out. First it was Rio to our rivals Manchester United he was only after one thing and that was money again, good player though I cant take that away from him.

Then Da court went out on loan to Roma; now he was world class especially during the European campaign. He dominated the midfield and brought a lot of strength to the side. Last but not least Lee Bowyer, he's a funny little character, great player but he ruins it by his actions on and off the pitch. Lee Bowyer and Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Du berry, and Tony Hack worth were all up in court for brutally attacking some young Asian student earlier this year. If this was found true surely the least likely set of fans to condone this type of behaviour is Leeds United. Luckily for them they were all found not guilty on the serious crime of GBH.

It's a well known saying that football supporters have short memories, but they can't be that short that they have already forgotten the murder of two of their own in Turkey about three years ago. Going back to Lee Bowyer, being a funny character, he seemed to play the best football of his life during the court case. Not that I cared at the time but now he's left to play for West Ham, I have no guilt in saying that Lee is a thug himself and the stamping on a players head a few months back proved to me what kind of a person he really is. Every other Leeds fan and myself alike knew that he did it.

But Leeds United backed him and the others all the way and he repaid us by asking for a transfer to Liverpool and when they wouldn't give him the money he wanted, he soon went running back. We " ve got them soon, West Ham that should be a game anyway; off to put the kettle on enough about Leeds I could talk about them forever like I said before I've been.
