Lennie And Curley's Wife example essay topic

In the actions of three characters in Of Mice and Men, desire is a stronger force than Responsibility. Lennie is a desire driven character. Curley's wife is a character who is driven by desire. Curley is also driven by desire. Lennie lives his life as a desire driven character. He sometimes cannot control himself.

Lennie grabbed a girl's pretty red dress, and couldn't let go. Lennie likes to touch soft, or nice things, and grabbed her dress. She then screamed, ran away, and accused Lennie of rape. Then, Lennie and George had to escape from Weed, and it was a close call. All the men in Weed chased after them with dogs and horses. They had to hide in an irrigation ditch all day until it was safe to leave.

Lennie sometimes doesn't think before he acts, which causes a problem in his life. He brought a puppy into the bunkhouse, even though George said not to. George had told Lennie that he shouldn't bring the puppies into the bunkhouse because they were just newborns, and if he petted the puppies too much, they could die. Slim, the owner of the puppies also agreed with George, saying the same thing. Lennie doesn't listen to George sometimes. When the two men came to a river, Lennie drank the water from the river.

George said not to, because it was a non-running source. No matter what Lennie does, it seems like desire in him will always overthrow responsibility. She talks and tries to be friends with the other ranchers working or sitting in the bunkhouse. Curley's wife tried to flirt with George and Lennie when they came into the bunkhouse (Page 32.) Curley's wife likes getting into gossip. One night, she came in a bunk with some guys in the bunk. She quickly asked about what happened to Curley's hand.

(Curley got in a fight with Lennie, and Lennie broke his hand. Curley saw Lennie laughing to himself, and tried to pick a fight.) Candy tried to make-up an excuse for it. "Han... Got caught in a machine... ".

(78). Curley's wife sometimes cannot control herself, or just doesn't obey the rules of marriage. Curley's wife is a flirt, and makes Lennie stroke her hair. She tells him that her hair is like velvet and both Lennie and Curley's wife like to touch soft things. So she puts Lennie's hand on her head and lets him stroke it. She isn't supposed to be flirting or conversing this close with other men while she is married.

Curley is a character who is driven by desire. Curley likes to pick fights. He, or the book, never says why, but Curley supposedly doesn't like big guys. We think this is the reason because he is not a big man himself. Curley challenged and fought Lennie in the bunkhouse.

Curley was looking for a fight, and in his bad mood thought he saw Lennie smiling. Curley then told him to get down, and started punching him. Curley has a questionable relationship with his wife. Candy said to George, "Ya know that glove that Curley always wears on his left hand? It's a glove full a Vaseline". (Page 27.) This because they think that Curley is waiting on his wife for the right moment.

Curley's dad is the boss, so Curley thinks he is different. Curley thinks he can just walk around the ranch, doing, saying, and thinking anything he wants. Curley said "Well, nex' time you answer when your spoken to". (Page 25), to Lennie the first time he met him. He was looking for a fight right there and then, but didn't get it.

Curley thinks he's the boss of all. Curley is a desire driven character in this book. Desire is a stronger force than responsibility in these characters. Even after the book is done, Lennie is still a desire driven character.

Curley's wife is a desire driven character. Curley leads a desire driven life. With the above named characters, desire drives them much more than responsibility does.
