Session 5: The Three Domains of Learning. Setting objectives. This session helped me to see the difference between Aims and Objectives 1 and how I applied them to my teaching notes thus far. Encouragingly, only slight modifications were required.

With reference to the Learning Domain the words Cognitive 1, Psychomotor 1 and Affective 1 were familiar to me, but I would not have associated them with teaching in this way. After the words being explained to us I could see that my teaching subject i.e. Building a Computer, would have to stimulate the student in a practical way, using elements of imitation, practice and habit. Both psychomotor and to a lesser degree the cognitive domain should characterize the future approach to my lessons to achieve the desirable outcome. Session 6: 5 Minute Talk Preparation for the 5 minute talk was extremely taxing both on my chosen subject for the evening and on the nerves!

We empathized with each other when we discussed the impending task, and again found it comforting to have the assurance that we were all learning together and equally nervous. However, we could all see the benefit of practicing in front of each other in this way as this is of course is just the type of essential tool required for our future work in teaching. For us to later discuss the possible pitfalls of each other's talk was also of value. I spoke on something close to the heart, and thankfully my fears were allayed, as I believe it went well enough. Session 7: Lesson Planning The results of my lesson plans so far have been reasonable and I was much encouraged to see the comparison made during the teaching course. In my day job, as a Class Technician whenever I have been required to plan and organize a large-scale event for university students, I have applied some rules that I feel have been tried and tested.

Amongst these I have adapted an approach to literally take step-by-step routines and put into place measures whereby a new student to the subject may gain the most from his / her learning environment. By anticipating some of the pitfalls the students may encounter during their practical sessions, smooth running has been achieved, keeping problems to a minimum. It is commonplace for the technicians to work on experiments prior to the start of sessions to ensure that instructions are tailored to the students needs. Since there is a full range of subjects accessible to all students nowadays, delivery of lessons will differ considerably.

Therefore a lesson / session plan arranged for one subject would be totally unsuitable for another. Personalities and outlook would also vary from one teacher to the next. With all this in mind, it is important to realize the significance of the key elements that can be applied to all methods of teaching in order to secure continuity. These have been named as: - Resources, Objectives, Introduction, Development and Conclusion. 2 Presently it is still Time management that continues to cause some concern, but experience and confidence will, I feel sure, grow in these areas.

Session 8: Learning Resources and the use of IT Being a Computer and Audio Visual technician I have the opportunity to work with many different resources, so I should not find this side of the teaching experience too difficult. My second nights teaching included an hour-long PowerPoint presentation, which the students enjoyed and learnt from. It not only gave visual stimulation but I included passing around computer components to provide some variety and to create a mix of both theory and practical applications. I found this to be a rewarding experience and plan to deliver more presentations like this in the future. Conclusion. Overall I found the last four sessions enlightening and encouraging, pointing out my weaknesses in the classroom and also in my preparation.

I know that I can not 'put things right' immediately but would like to make an effort, given time, to make the teaching more rewarding, not only for myself but also for the students.
