Li Bai is one of the most celebrated poets of the golden age of Chinese poetry. He is also considered as the foremost romantic poet in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Li Bai was also called Tai Bai or Qing Lian Ju Shi as his poetic name. Li Bai was born in Central Asia to a Chinese family in about 701 AD. In 705, the family returned to China and lived in China. In his youth, he was influenced by both Confucianism and Taoism.

In 725, twenty-five year old Li Bai left where he lived in and started to think about to be part of the governing elite. The most common route was to take the royal exam. But in fact, he couldn! t participate with other people because he didn! t know anything about the royal examination. So Li Bai chose another route. He started to travel in the country. He befriended many famous scholars in his traveling.

At the age of 41 (743 AD), a friend recommended him to the court. He was so happy at first and eager to serve the emperor. He was appointed to be a member of Yu-lin. However, Yu-lin was far from the seat of power.

He was so disappointed. Unwilling to serve such a meaningless function, Li Bai finally left the capital in less than two years and restarted his travel. In 762, Li Bai died. Some said he died of illness due to his excess drinking over the year.

Another said he was drowned while drunkenly leaning from a boat to embrace the moon!'s reflection on the water. Li Bai lived most of his life to study Taoist, wander aimlessly, write poems and enjoying nature and wine, supplied free by the emperor!'s order.
