Television has always been influential throughout the years. The most popular form of television show, the sitcom, has had a major role in television history. Its influence stretches out to viewers of all ages. A sitcom is a situation comedy. A sitcom takes a bad situation and finds the good. A sitcom is like an escape from reality.

Most people would watch these sitcoms religiously and picture themselves in the place of one of the characters. The writers of the show put the characters in real life situation to appeal to the viewer. When a person feels like they can relate with the character they start to act the same way, Since people are easily influenced by characters of a sitcom because of the realty a viewer sees in them. A character in a show can give the viewer hope that everything can be okay, by dealing with real life situations in a humorous manner. A good example of giving hope to a viewer is in The Simpsons.

Ned Flanders, the neighbor, finds himself thinking about the life he lived. After realizing that he has lived his whole life doing only what is expected of him he noticed that he's not living his life to the fullest. Its makes the viewers feel like maybe they aren't living their life to the fullest also. Another example of good influences that a sitcom has on the lives of its viewers is through relationships.

On television all relationships seem to end without their being two broken hearts. This helps the viewer imagine having a relationship just like it. Some shows are written to give the viewer hope that can also have a beautiful girlfriend. On the Drew Carey show Drew, who is overweight and unattractive man, has a beautiful girlfriend who sees his personality.

This will help the viewer judge other people not on their looks but on their personality.
