Love With Cyrano example essay topic

321 words
This story takes place in the 17 century in Paris, France. It is a story about a man's love for a woman hidden behind his poetry. Cyrano, who is a poetic man, loves to be the center of attention. He is known for his drawn out stories, exaggerated tales, and his extremely, irregular long nose. Cyrano's friend, Christian de Neuvillete fell in love with a lady named Roxane, who is Cyrano's fraternal cousin.

Cyrano goes out of his way to help Christian achieve his goal to wed Roxane. Cyrano read out loud his beautiful poetry and writes excessive amounts of letters to Roxane. The catch is that Roxane thinks that it is Christian reading all of these poetic themes, and writing these letters. In truth, Christian is a man who calls himself a "damned fool". Yes, he is a handsome lad, but Roxane falls in love with his "soul". She is able to look beyond his distinguishing good looks, and says that it would be easier to love someone who is uglier.

All along Roxane is in love with Cyrano since he is Christian's soul. Christian dies in war against the Spaniards, and Cyrano tries effortlessly to explain to Roxane the truth behind her love for Christian. They are continuously interrupted and Cyrano is not able to bring up the conversation for another 15 years. At this time Cyrano is on his deathbed from an injury with his head. He finally explains to Roxane, and she asks him if he loves her; he denies the truth several times. At this point Roxane says", I love you", but he won't let her feelings for him mean anything to him.

Not much longer is it that we assume, due to the context of the author, Cyrano dies. The author then ends this classical love story.
