M Lantin First Met Lady Lantin example essay topic
Even if she did, she might have had her reasons. I believe the story has another side to it, the Lady Lantin's story. At the beginning, when M. Lantin first met Lady Lantin, he thought she was everything he wanted, actually, she was what every man would want at that time. From the description of her in the book, she seems to be a simple woman that doesn! |t know much and would listen to everything her husband tells her to do.
And most of all, she was beautiful. As for her mother, having a husband who had just passed away couple of years ago, and a daughter with money barely enough to live on, the best way to survive was for her daughter to get married with a man that could take care of them. In a way, it was like! yen selling! | her daughter. I am sure that Lady Lantin understood there Louisa Suen 2 Situation, because when her mother took her around to the neighborhood, what people could see was an innocent girl who had a slight smile and a bit of shyness. But they have never stopped to think for a minute that behind that face was a girl who overcame her father's death.
A way to loosen her mother's burden was for her to get married. So when M. Lantin proposed, she didn! |t need to think twice, and the! SS deal!" was made immediately. One reason was because M. Lantin had a mid level income, which could take care of her basic necessities; another reason was that she knew that she couldn! |t stay with her mother forever.
This was a way for both her mother and her to live better. After her marriage with M. Lantin, she ran the household with great effort; she managed her husband's income so well that M. Lantin thought they were living in luxury. Also, she performed her role as a wife well; she took good care of her husband and ran the house smoothly. This made M. Lantin love her even more after their marriage. I am sure Lady Lantin loved her husband, for he was the one that made her life once again complete, a home, all the necessities that she needed, and a husband that loved her very much. What more could a woman ask for? M. Lantin loved everything about her, and he saw what she had done for him, he was satisfied with what he had.
But there were two things that he found fault with her, it was her love for theater and jewelry which he thought was false. Seriously, both of those things would not affect him, he didn! |t like her to going to the theater because he thought plays were boring and he didn! |t like her wearing false jewelry because he thought it was shaming to be seen wearing it. But those were Louisa Suen 3 Lady Lantin's hobbies. Lady Lantin knew that her husband disliked the theater, but still, to be seen in public places like the theater without her husband was quite unsuitable to her, so she would always insist taking him with her. She is always considerate towards what people or her husband thinks. But M. Lantin would rather wait at home and let her go with her lady friends instead.
So she gave in at the end, although she still thought it was wrong, this shows her love and understanding towards her husband. One thing for sure was her love for jewelry. I am pretty sure her love for jewelry came above everything else for her, we could see that everything she did, was for the sake of her husband first, but despite the fact that her husband disliked her jewelry, she still wore them all the time and she even tried to put them on her husband and admire them. M. Lantin thought it was just plain passion for jewelry and he knew that with his income he would not be able to satisfy her wants of real jewelry, so he simply stopped mentioning about it. He would never have thought that if it weren! |t for those jewelries, they wouldn! |t have been living the way they were. Lady Lantin doesn! |t seem to be like the kind of person that would do anything for jewelries; in fact, I would think that she was doing it for her family. She most probably didn! |t do anything with the person who gave her all those expensive jewelries except for going to plays.
Seeing that she put her husband in front of everything, she probably didn! |t really want to at first, but facing the temptation of shining jewelry, she just couldn! |t resist. And since M. Lantin did not share her passion for theater, finding a very rich friend that had a close interest wouldn! |t be too much. Louisa Suen 4 Moreover, at that period of time, people liked to gossip a lot. And M. Lantin, being a chief accountant at a well known bank, if people saw his wife misbehaving like M. Lantin thought she did, wouldn! |t he have heard of it before her death?
I would think that his love for her was more than that, especially the way he acted after her death, mourning from morning till night, and he couldn! |t concentrate in doing anything. His life became a mess. Poor Lady Latin, everything she did was for her husband, and yet, after he found out the truth about the jewelries, he never thought once of what she did for him or an excuse of how she got those jewelries, he just plainly let his man's pride overwhelm him, accusing the love of his life, assuming that she would do such shameful things. In the end, he showed that his pride was more important than his love for Lady Lantin.
He never had a chance to hear her story and he didn! |t have any facts except a few pieces of jewelry which he didn! |t know how and whom she got it from. Lady Lantin did so much for him and in the end this is what she gets. If she was still alive she would be able to explain herself to him, and if he would have spent a little more time with her before her death, he would have learnt the whole story, and the poor Lady Lantin wouldn! |t have to die with a bad name.
