Major Side Effect Of Unemployment example essay topic

570 words
This paper is dedicated to the problem of job and unemployment in US. I understand that problem of job and unemployment in US is a global project that is why I would like to discuss only few aspects of the problem. So what is the situation with unemployment in US for nowadays? According to John Peterson The crisis of unemployment and poverty in America continues to worsen.

Despite a nominal increase in jobs in recent weeks, what is not reported is what kind of jobs are being created. The effect this is having in terms of unemployment, homelessness, and even hunger right here in the US is a devastating indictment of a system which places profits before human need and suffering. (Poverty and Unemployment in America) If everyone in the United States had jobs would there still be unemployment in this country? I do not think that such Utopian employment situation is possible but if imagine it theoretically I doubt that it would cure unemployment. The thing is that some people dont want to work at all no matter exists such possibility or no. I dont know what causes this pathological idleness or some other factors but there still be some number of people unable to work.

Of course, we can examine social model with obligatory labor but history shows that it is not the best choice ever. Due to all above said I dont think that poverty is a major side effect of unemployment. Of course, they are tightly connected and are liable to mutual influence but still poverty doesnt always mean unemployment. Lets take for example slave-owning system poverty and pecuniary dependency are evident but who can say about unemployment? That is why I am fully confident that poverty can exist without unemployment.

Poverty doesnt imply unemployment and before talking about of poverty as a major side effect of unemployment we must consider all concomitant factors. In 1960's, a discouraging fact came to be known: between 40 and 50 million Americans were considered to be poor. So why does one of the worlds richest countries have one of the highest poverty rates? Exists many theories explaining this phenomena as for me I prefer the position of Michael Katz. He emphasized that in nation as rich as America poverty exists just because of a political decision not to redistribute somebody's welfare to poorest.

An unequal asset distribution is an important reason for the existing of poverty because it allows the income to flow beyond individuals and institutions with low income. He argues that because of unequal distribution we in a full measure can observe economic stagnation, a disproportionate rise in low-paying jobs and a declining minimum wage have exacerbated urban poverty. However, we are far from equal financial redistribution and poverty still is a problem our society must deal with. As one of the side effects of the poverty I want to name raise in crime in the country. The directly proportional dependency between rate of poverty and increase in crime is well-known fact.

The question is can high leaves of unemployment be link to a raise in crime in the country? As for me, yes it can and this is one of the more evident examples of their liability to mutual influence.
