THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD ARENA: ASSIGNMENT 1 Media in the Contemporary World Arena (CWA) carries with it a huge importance. This is due to many factors, such as it is the soul voice for educating and informing the world about the other major factors and dimensions in the CWA. Without the source of media we have today the events that occur in the CWA would be insignificant to world affairs or in a global perspective and would only be heard and seen by those who are directly effected by such events. But through the media now the whole world can see, pass judgement on or make an opinion about current events in CWA at the click of a button or turn of a page. Thus making true of Shakespeare when he said "all the world's a stage". Therefore making the ownership of media a world power in itself.

Especially from a political viewpoint or stance in CWA where historically one's political clout and influence was once decided or measured by: divine right, property, money, and acquaintances. Currently in the twentieth century, particularly the past two decades, the political power to influence others resides in information: the more information you have and the more you know how to use it, the more potential influence you have. People rely on the media for their information, as it is the most easily accessible, efficient, and passive way of acquiring knowledge as previously stated. Unfortunately, the media is not completely reliable as it can and has been manipulated by politicians, their parties, and their governments. This makes the media a powerful weapon as the owners use it to effect voters political choices through advertising, change popular opinion on issues of state etc.

Such a theory could be applied in the United kingdom with the majority of the media owned by Rupert Murdoch. He nse leading to the "Rupert Murdoch effect" which could be said to encourage people to his political orientation, due to the fact he decides what makes the press and what gets shown on T. vs. so ultimately he decides what we absorb and correspondingly make opinion on.
