The above issues have given us the decision to terminate her employment. Our company is in a saturated industry, which requires us to keep good customer relationship with current and new clients for survival. Newspaper reports on Mei Yee's crimes have accused the company's work pressure had contributed to her harsh treatment towards her maid. The reports have tarnished the good image we are trying to built up over the years with clients. Keeping Mei Yee will enable us to retain the 3 major customers who have high praises for her work. However, we must take into consideration other existing clients, potential clients and the general public perception on our company if we keep her.
Our society is unable to tolerate any form of abuse and by keeping Mei Yee we will be seen as condoning such unethical actions. Especially in Singapore, maid abuse is considered as something very serious and can be seen as a crime itself. People who committed it was considered as someone merciless. We cannot afford to leave an impression that the company choose to overlook this point and continue to employ Mei Yee. This will leave a negative impact on the public, which might lead to our sales down further. Our main concern is for the well being of the company and not just one individual and keeping Mei Yee will be at the expense of the company.
Therefore we would need to explain our position to the 3 major customers on our decision and seek their understanding. We did a research on the relationship of Mei Yee and her subordinates and were surprised to find her unable to get along with them. We anticipate we will be encountering further complications from Mei Yee with her subordinates upon her return, especially after being seen as an ex-convict of abusing maids. Mei Yee had high expectations on her job scope and has the same expectations upon her subordinates. It is understandable that she have these high expectations.
However she was seen as being too over demanding instead, at the same time unwilling to open to her subordinates' well-reasoned arguments. Her subordinates have responded they are rather unhappy with her working attitude and unable to work with her well. On top of that, they have reservations working with her now as they are afraid her depression might worsen her attitude towards them. It seems that if her depression persists, it will definitely affect her work performance. With the sales figure going down, we cannot afford to have the CRO seat vacant for 3 months and take the risk of having Mei Yee back with high possibility of bad work performance due to her depression. I do suggest we could shortlist the current 7 customer relations staff to take over her post.
We would then be able to save on the training. On the other hand, we could employ another customer relations staff to even out the work load and could at the same time save significant amount of fund without having to train a new staff on such a professional post. We cannot deny Mei Yee has great contribution to the company. Though we will be terminating her employment, we felt that we should not be totally unsympathetic towards her. We could provide her with some form of reasonable compensation to acknowledge her efforts in the company and to assist her financially. After an in depth research on Mei Yee, it seems unjustifiable to keep her in the company with her bad relationship with subordinates, having the company's image at stake and the high possibility that her work performance would have been affected due to her depression and her jail term.
Thus we come to a conclusion to terminate her.
