Matt Dreg ely Mr. Smith 10-27-03 Sec. 2164 JE# 9 The Nature of Dog Intelligence A. Coren wrote this essay as a definition essay. He did this to try and define the different types of intelligence. B. I think Coren's point of the essay was that intelligence is too broad to explain, you can't know it all. C. I learned a little bit more about dogs and the different types of intelligence. D. If I were to improve this essay I would have used an animal that has all of the characteristics of intelligence. E. By the title of the essay I thought it was going to be more about dogs, but he just used them as examples. Which was okay, but I was kind of disappointed in the essay. I guess that's why you don't judge a book by its cover. In the essay he says that dogs can't do math, but my aunts dog knows how to count, add and subtract.

Although, my dog is an offspring of one of their dogs, my dog happens to be dumb as a rock. 1. General intelligence is being a little bit smart at everything. Specific intelligence is being smart at a few things. 2 a. Spatial intelligence, bodily kinesthetic, interpersonal, interpersonal, musical, logical-mathematical, and linguistic intelligence are the different types of intelligence.

2 b. All of them are convincing except linguistic, math and musical intelligence. Dogs need to communicate, they don't do math, except in my aunts' case, and they can't understand music. I think he should have just used people to explain the different categories. 2 c. Consciousness is just acting on impulse, if nothing were to happen then you would do nothing.

Intelligence is thinking things through before acting on that impulse. The Insufficiency of Honesty A. Carter also uses a definition essay to explain integrity and honesty. B. Yes, Carter's point of the essay was that honesty has nothing to do with how much integrity you have, but the more honest you are, more than likely you have more integrity than most people do. C. Yes, this essay helped me realize that if you have a lot of integrity you are an all around good person, not just honest. You have good morals, goals, you are dependable and most of all responsible. D. If I were to change this essay I would try to condense it into a smaller essay. I felt that this essay was too long, but it had many good examples. E. I don't know if I can relate to this essay, I haven't been in any of the situation he used in his examples or anywhere remotely close to them either.

1. Because integrity is not just about being honest. The overall point of the essay was to show people what it really takes to have a lot of integrity. If the essay has more than one purpose I don't know what it is. 2. People believe deeply about different issues and they may act upon those beliefs not thinking about how it is going to affect the people around them.

The men in the essay were honest, they did what they thought was right, but when the man told his wife he had an affair 30 years ago, he let her down. She thought of him as an honest man with a lot of integrity, but now she is a widow and knows that he wasn't that man she that he was. 3. The men in the essay lack integrity because they are not fair and not taking care of all of their responsibilities.
