Introduction and Methodology Mobile phone is more and more welcomed in modern society nowadays. Most of the people in England have got their own mobile phone, especially students. It becomes an efficient and convenient way to communicate with somebody else, like parents, friends! - etc. To acquaint the consumption of mobile phone tendency, an survey was executed on 27th June 2003. The intention of the survey is to discover the situation of the students in UH about the reason of buying mobile phone, the factor of making up your mind to buy the mobile phone, the main aim of using mobile phone and the fee of mobile phone. This survey was given to twenty students in LRC of UH with questionnaire.

There were twenty questions in the questionnaire and the students who answered the questionnaire came form different countries, fourteen males and six females separately. The Main Findings 1. Essential of choosing mobile phone All of the twenty students had got at least one mobile phone, even seven students had got two mobile phones. About two important issues of choosing mobile phone, twelve students selected free time as the most important condition, around 60%. Price was the second consideration of choosing mobile phone, chosen by nine students about 45%. Servicing, quality or function was the third choice, chosen by 6, 5 and 4 students, about 30%, 25% and 20% separately.

Furthermore, two students chose cross, about 10%. There were thirteen students buying mobile phone with pay monthly, it was about 70%; three students prefer pay as you go, it was about 15%. Two students paid their bill with both of the two ways. it was about 10%. About the question of the main reason of buying mobile phone, the answers of all of the students were the same, for personal need.

There were three students choosing Samsung, it was about 15%. Others chose Motorola, Song-Eccrission or Sharp, it was 5% separately. Seven students consider weight as the most essential function when they bought a mobile phone, the proportion was about 35%. Color screen and camera were the second important factor; each was choose by four students, about 20%. Moreover, fifteen students choose Phone 4 U as the best retailer, about 75%.

Carphone and Link were the same level, chosen by three and two students. The proportion was 15% and 10% separately. The principal sources of information what the students got before they bought a mobile phone was their friend!'s introduction, chosen by eight students about 40%. Six students thought magazine was another good channel of obtaining useful information about mobile phone, about 30%. Internet also was good choice, chosen by four students, about 20%.

Apart from above mentioned, sixteen students chose reducing price as the promotion they bought a mobile phone, the percentage was 80%. Major use of Mobile Phone Now we move on the subject to the major use of mobile phone, eight students choose talking time of calling back home were 50-60 min every week. It was about 40%. The following answer was 30-40 min weekly, chosen by seven students, about 35%. Two students chose 10-20 min weekly, about 10%.

Only one student chose 0-10 min every week. About message, nine students chose 1-10 messages, which they sent to their friends every week. It was leading part of 45% compared with four students never sent messages. The percentage was 10%.

There were three students sending more over 50 messages to their friends weekly, about 15%. Sixteen students admitted that they hadn! t used mobile phone to surfing Internet. About 20% of four students! answers were yes. There were seven students who never mind the fee of surfing Internet, it was 35%. Besides that, there were eight students who dissatisfied or not to accept the fee of surfing Internet, it was 20% separately. The Amount Cost In this section we were discussing about the fee of mobile phone.

This is the most factor that people decided to buy mobile phone or not in my honest opinion. There were eleven students chose! ^e 14-30 monthly, it was about 55%; the following choice was! ^e 30-60 monthly by 25%. Moreover, we have got four students chose! ^e 0-14 or more than! ^e 60, it was 10% separately. Namely, ten students chose 600 minutes peak time as their service. It was about 50%; the next choice was 200 minutes any time. There were four students chose this item, by 20%.

There were three students of 15% prefer 400 minutes any network. Two students chose 200 minutes any network and one student chose 500 minutes any network every month. Nobody chose 1000 minutes any network / any time. It is too expensive and useless for students, I suppose. About insurance, fourteen students chose 0-3 month! insurance, it was 70%. Two students chose 3-12 months as their insurance limit.

Only one student chose one year, it was 10%. Time of Replacement The last aspect I! d like to consider is time of replacement. There were about 50% students planning to change the mobile phone in 1-2 years, the number was 10. Six students were going to change mobile phone during half a year, it was 30%, and two students planned to change mobile phone in 0.5-1 years, it was 10%. About the promotion that students bought mobile phone, sixteen students selected reducing price, the percentage was 80%. Only about 20% of students answered they can upgrade the old one with discount.

Obviously, mobile phone has become a more and more important communication tools in dairy life, the majority of the students in UH have their own mobile phone and the main purpose of the students bought mobile phone was for personal need. Firstly, we can judge free time and price were the two most important factors when students chose mobile phone; function, quality and service were the second consideration, depending on whom we investigated. Most of the students chosen pay monthly as the way of paying bill, just few people selected pay as you go. Nokia was the most popular in all of the mobile phone brands, . Samsung was the second choice.

About aspect of feature, weight was the most essential function for people to decide to buy a mobile phone; color screen and camera were also the other two important reasons. MP 3 player, game and shape can! t almost interest people. The principal sources of information what the students got before they bought a mobile phone was their friend!'s introduction. Magazine and internet were also the good channel to get helpful information about mobile phone. People would hardly buy mobile phone though the other way, like AD of newspaper or TV. Secondly, as the most main purpose of buying mobile phone, nearly four fifth of students had called back home about 30-40 min or 50-60 min every week.

There were just few students called back home less than 10 min. Message was another way of communication besides talking. Exactly half of the students sent about 10 messages to their friends or anyone else every week. To my surprise, only a quarter of students used mobile phone surfing Internet, and half of the students dissatisfied or didn! t accept the fee of surfing Internet. Thirdly, most of the students spent about! ^e 14-30 or! ^e 30-60 on their mobile phone bill every month. On the contrary, nobody want to cost! ^e 60 monthly for mobile phone.

Over half of the students chose the service of 600 minutes off peak; nobody chose higher service. About insurance, most of the students only chose the insurance between 0-3 months; nobody selected two or more year!'s insurance. Finally, most of the students would upgrade their mobile phones during two years. Furthermore, reducing price was the most fascinating promotion when people planned to change their old mobile phone.
