Illegal aliens have become a serious problem for the good people of the United States for many reasons. Their presence has caused serious set-backs in health care funding, educational opportunities, changing labor benchmarks, as well as many other reasons. It is illegal and should be stopped. One of the main problems with illegal entry into the U.S. is the rising cost of health care. In Phyllis Schlafly's "Why Health Care is so Costly", she states; "while Americans without health insurance struggle with the problem of how to pay for medical care, Mexicans don't have that problem.

They just ride in a Mexican ambulance across the border to a hospital in Arizona, New Mexico, California or Texas, and get free medical treatment". As the United States pours more and more money into free health care for people with no work-related insurance or home-health care, the tax payers see the increases. America not only foots the bill for the Mexican citizens but there is also a reduction in care for our own citizens who have to compete with folks who are not even tax payers. Should our own people have to take a cut in care just because we have an increase in health care need due strongly to illegal aliens receiving free care?

In California alone, "the cost of providing free services to illegal immigrants has risen from $22 million in 1989 to $400 million in 1995" according to California's Department of Health Services. Imagine what the cost is now in our present 2003. The poor people of the United States, the single parents, the homeless, and the unemployed should have had that $400 million for themselves. It is a waste and a shame. No one in the world should have to go without needed health care but that does not mean that lady liberty should pick up the tab. Another big problem with illegal immigrants in the United States is the education problem.

Again, we see the taxpayers of the United States picking up the bill for the free schooling. Almost any day of the week you will hear an anchor person on the news talking about the latest tax bump for more education. A constant battle goes on in the state capitols as well as our nation's capitol about how to find more funding for free education. Parents write letters and college students apply for help in their endeavor to better themselves. Why should it be this hard?

That is ridiculous and should not be tolerated. Think of all the poor schools like that in the Houston area and now remember that Houston is just one city in one state. If there is a $6 billion dollar deficit in school funding in just two states, the overall cost for America as a whole is beyond our dreams. How much better could our schools be and how much further along would our children be in higher education if we had all of that money to help them?

Some will argue that providing free education to illegal aliens is better for us in the long run as well as morally right but when will we put a stop to it. Sure, educating anyone will make them less likely to commit crimes but we should not have to lower our crime rate by spending money on people that should not be here in the first place. Spending money on educating illegal immigrants is the real crime. Mexican workers provide a labor issue like no other we have ever seen in this country.

Many entrepreneurs in the United States love having cheap labor. It seems like good business to find a way to make your product cheaper so that you can either lower the cost and thus sell more or just make more profit on the same item for the same price. Making more money and passing on savings may seem like a great thing for the individual but it hurts the economy as a whole.

The Mexicans will work for a lot less money doing tedious, dirty work. That, in itself, is honorable and should be commended for the strength of character to survive but it is simply not wise for the joint struggle of balance in the economy. The benchmarks that the illegal aliens set for labor wages are not realistic to U.S. families that have to pay state taxes, county taxes, and school taxes as well as home mortgages, school clothes for their children, automobiles to get to work, etc. The list goes on and, because many workers still have their families living in the low cost Mexico, they don't need as much money to live on.

Many of the workers share one house and send the left over money back to their homeland. On the other hand, tax-paying American citizens try to find a job to raise their families but can't because there are not enough "labor" jobs for them. Can a normal man who pays all of his taxes, puts gas in his car, buys the food for his family, pays his rent or mortgage, pays his water, electric, gas, and other utilities make it on a simple minimum wage salary that has been benchmarked by employers who tell our economy that they can get by with workers who will works for less. It is simple as much as it is confusing. If a Mexican worker will sew new jeans for $5.00 an hour, the jeans company can sell them for less.

Sound good, right? Well, if they sell them for less, then less money is being distributed in the American economy. If less money is in the American economy, we have no money for schools, health care, retirement, etc. This lack of money becomes a cancer in our society that we can not get rid of. There is a hole being dug, and it is just going to keep getting deeper if something is not done. There should not be a huge deficit just because an immigrant, an illegal alien to this country, will dig ditches cheaper than Joe American can afford to.

It not only raises the cost of unemployment insurance but it hurts everyone the long run. The jeans company thinks they are doing good business by finding cheaper labor but that is only for a short time period. In the long run they will see an increase in taxes and eventually a dead market because shoppers will not have money to spend on the latest "American-Made" pair of cool jeans. Another reason that illegal immigrants are hurting this great country is simply the cost of their prevention.

Deportation cost, border patrol officers, border patrol cars, patrol trucks, patrol helicopters, jails, prisons, cost of jail and prison staff; these all cost money, time, and effort. The hard-working citizens of the United States should not have to pay for this. The Mexicans have created a never-ending money-eating hole that needs to be filled. For every single Mexican native that tries to cross the border, there is at least one, if not more, American citizens in the form of border patrol, highway patrol, or other officials trying to stop them. This is ridiculous and again another economic burden for Americans. Sure, jobs are created to operate these border facilities but it is funded by taxes!

The funding could just as well go toward higher education for these law enforcement employees to start their own businesses or find employment elsewhere. It is no way an excuse or a reason to create such places. They are breaking the law. They should be dealt with in such a manner. If an American citizen breaks a law that cost thousands of dollars and is a repeat offender he will go to jail and have to wait bail, pay court charges, and be looked down upon in society for his criminal record. However, if an illegal alien breaks a law by entering this country without permission, he gets picked up and released back in his homeland... at the cost of the department which is funded by taxpayers.

No court costs? No bail fees? How about at least paying for the gas to drive them back across? Instead of looking at illegal immigrants as lawbreakers, they are pitied for wanting to better themselves! Everyone in America or France or England or anywhere else in the world wants to better themselves. It is human nature and should not be confused with a lack of moral disconcert for the rights of American people.

As you can see, the constant flooding of illegal aliens into our wonderful country has caused a trend of economic hardship. True, they deserve to be taken care of, to be financially independent, to be able to provide educations for their children, and to be able to care for their families; but should it come from the pockets of people from another country with their own economic problems? Immigrants from Mexico bring a rise in health care, a rise in education, and rigid red-tape for entrance to better schools and better insurance. They clog our jails and break the already weak economy. Illegal entrance must be stopped.

It is a force that needs to be dealt with on criminal terms. They break the law and should be dealt with in such a manner. It is a law for a reason and should not be ignored any longer.
