II. The major agent of socialization that I think has influenced my own socialization is the workplace. The workplace has influenced my life in many ways. Before I began working, I did not have anything to worry about. I would wake up, go to school, go to practice, then come home and do whatever I wanted. On the weekends, I could be as lazy as I wanted, or I could do anything that was fun because I had nothing to worry about.

Ever since I started working, I have had responsibilities. I had to learn how to manage my time, money, friends, and girlfriends. I think it has helped me mature as a person, student and friend. It has helped me control any anger that I have because I have to deal with angry customers everyday I work.

As time went on, I found myself looking for more work because I loved money. I realized that the more I work, the more money I get, which will turn into the more things can buy and have fun with. When I turned 16 I had enough money to buy my own car. I thought I was going to be the only person in my grade with my own vehicle, but it came to my surprise that most everyone had a vehicle to drive, and most of them did not have a job. So, I thought to myself, if they did not have a job, then I do not either. So I quit the job I had at that time.

That was not a very smart idea because all the money that I had saved up, I spent on gas, then before I knew it, I was broke. This made me upset to see all of these other kids driving theses cars, and had no job. So, I started to ask them how they do it, they told me that their parents pay for it. I knew that my parents would not pay for my gas, so that just made me so mad. After talking with my parents, I realized that I will have to work for everything that I get, and all those kids that get anything they want from their parents, probably will not be as successful as I will.

This all had to do with working. Now, I had to manage my money, time, friends, girlfriends, and my emotions. This will all make me a stronger person and help me throughout my life. Working also taught me that I have to play a role while on the job.

Whatever job I have, I will have to say that I am a teacher, doctor, dishwasher, waiter or whatever it is and I have to realize that people will see me as that, and not as someone that is nice, caring, smart, athletic, or funny, until they really get to know me.
