Morpheus Believes Neo example essay topic
They eventually meet, and Morpheus brings Neo into his world, the "real world". He reveals that the world Neo knows is merely a software program, called The Matrix, designed by machines to distract humans while they " re used for fuel. The program perfectly simulates everyday life, creating an alternate universe down to the smallest detail. The Matrix is protected by Agents, programs whose purpose is to kill all who rebel against the machines. Morpheus believes Neo is 'the one' who can save mankind, destroy the machines and free the world from the virtual imprisonment.
Morpheus brings Neo to the Oracle, the one who knows all. She (the oracle) tells him exactly what he needed to here. A crewmate on the Nebuchunezzar (the ship they pilot in "the real world"), Cypher, betrays them and this leads to Morpheus being held captive by the Agents. Neo battles the Agents, rescues Morpheus, and saves Trinity from a near death experience. While exiting the Matrix, Neo is left outside the Matrix, trapped by three Agents. He is shot, but then comes back to life as a perfect being.
Finally realizing he is 'the one,' his powers extend beyond all reality. He can stop bullets, fight off an offender. He defeats the agents and flies into the sky as the credits begin to roll. While 'The Matrix' has received most of its attention for its never before-seen effects, many do not realize the parallels between Neo and Christ. The Bible states this about Christ's birth: "And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took her as his wife, and kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus (Matthew 1: 24, 25)". Neo is literally born into the real world from the womb like incubator that he's existed in all his life.
The imagery in the movie is even symbolic of a birth - from an enclosed sac (complete with several umbilical cords), down the chute of the birth canal into the "real world."Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel ", which translated means, "God with us" (Matthew 1: 23). Christ was also referred to as: the "Son of Man" and "The Chosen One". The name Thomas Anderson (Neo) has special meaning. "Thomas" is linked to "Doubting Thomas".
Neo didn't fully believe he was "The One". He had to see for himself that he was "The One."Anderson" is a name which means "Son of Man", a the name in which Jesus was often referred. The name "Neo" means "new" or "change", and is an anagram for "One", Change is exactly why Neo was there; he wanted to change the world! Morpheus both believed and proclaimed that Neo was "The One". He played the 'role' of John the Baptist in relation to the story of Christ. Morpheus: We " ve done it Trinity.
We found him. Trinity: I hope you " re right. Morpheus: I don't have to hope. I know it!
The Bible states this about John the Baptist: "The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He on behalf of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me'. And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God (John 1: 29, 30, & 34)". Neo's coming, just like Christ, was predicted by a higher power.
In the matrix, it was the oracle that predicted it, just as God predicted the coming of Christ. Isaiah 7: 14 states: "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel". Neo is betrayed by Cypher, one of his companions from his ship's crew. Here, the Christ allegory breaks down somewhat in that Neo is not really the target of the betrayal as Jesus was with Judas (... if the Agents had only known! ). The Agents, unaware of Neo's real importance, want Morpheus, and that is the deal Cypher makes - to lead Morpheus and the rest of the group (including Neo) into a trap where Morpheus can be taken.
Cypher's "payment" (like the 30 pieces of silver) is to be reinserted into The Matrix for a "better" life. When Judas betrays Jesus the Bible reads: " "What are you willing to give me to deliver Him up to you?" And they weighed out to him 30 pieces of silver. And from then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Him (Matthew 26: 15, 16)". The Bible foretells what is to come of Christ when he resurrects: .".. the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again... for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth (Matthew 12: 40)".
Neo is killed later by the Agents, just as Christ crucified by the soldiers. He was dead for approximately 72 seconds; 72 seconds ~ 72 hours, which is three days. After Christ is resurrected, he returns proclaiming he has greater powers than before: "And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28: 18)". When Neo comes back to life, the Agents' powers are useless against him; Neo now has control over the Matrix. He is the ultimate being; he is perfect. The closing scene is symbolic: Neo hangs up the phone, after proclaiming to the agents that the bondage is over, that there will be a new world where there are no boundaries or borders.
He then ascends to the sky. It is stated that Christ acts very similarly: "So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God (Mark 16: 19).".
