Most Security Possible The Death Penalty example essay topic
The death penalty provides a sense of justice to the victim's family and the community around them. The death penalty has proof that it is effective and provides America with a safer upbringing. After reading and looking into the graphs in the packet the facts were straight foreword and shows that, "Consistently when the number of executions goes down, the homicide rate goes up, and when the number of executions goes up, the homicide rate goes down". The statistics show how successful the death penalty is in real life. Since the fear of being sentenced to the death penalty there are less homicides committed.
This proves that when the death penalty is in place it has a huge impact on murders' minds. When someone is sentenced to the death penalty the person obviously committed a serious crime in most cases committing murder, and should be punished severely just like there victim did. "Other crimes, such as theft, or even rape, leave the victim capable of recovering. Murder does not. It is final. So is the death penalty, which, therefore, traditionally has been thought fitting".
This statement of fact provides the truth behind why the death penalty receives justice. People are given all types of rights and when a person kills them and takes away everything they have all of the murder's rights and means of life should be taken away as well. When crimes as serious as murder are committed they leave a sense of uncertainty in the family of the victims minds. Not that revenge is important but the mind frame that everything is put to rest. As Ernest van den Haag said, "Punishments re tribute for the harm, the disruption of peace and security, that crime imposes on society as well as for the harm done to individual victims". brings a sense of security to the people.
Now that the killer is put to rest the family can have a sense of peace with everything. When killers are executed the homicide rates are down which is proven in the statement, "Such consistent correlation between homicide rates and executions is not a result of coincidence-it is proof that capital punishment works... ". Capital punishment is a must and should be used more often with murders' on death row.
There has to be strong consequences for people who are taking other people's lives. Killing innocent people is morally wrong and if we want to stop most murders from happening we have to get rid of the killers.
