Mothers Right To Life example essay topic

The issue of whether or not abortion is morally right has been a hot topic for many years. Pro-life believers hold that abortion is murdering a human being, while pro-choice believers deem that at the time of termination, the zygote is not yet human. Yet, most people never have to deal with the terrible decision of whether to have an abortion or not. What if the problem hit a little closer to home?

Picture a woman walking to her car, its dark, and it doesn't seem like anyone is around for miles. Suddenly, a strange man runs up to her and starts to beat and rape her. No one can hear her crying and screaming as he brutally molests her. A couple of weeks later, the woman who thought her life was right on track, finds out that she is pregnant. All of the sudden she is struck with one of the hardest decisions of her life... should she have an abortion?

As she walks to the abortion clinic, she is called a murderer by people that do not know her story and don't care to listen. None of these people have had to go through what this woman has. They can't see it through her eyes. What if she was one of their daughters, or wives?

When it happens to them, people tend to look at things differently. Not many people would like to raise a child that was conceived in such a violent manner. Every time the woman looked at the child that has changed her life so much, she would be reminded of the time she was brutally raped and scarred for life. Every child should be a wanted child. If a woman is made to follow through with a pregnancy that is unwanted, the child is often uncared-for, unloved, brutalized, and abandoned. A child raised in this manner is often disadvantaged and has problems in society.

Another problem that many women face regards their health. Some women's bodies are not able to support a baby. For many women with heart disease, kidney disease, severe hypertension, sickle-cell anemia or severe diabetes, the choice of abortion has helped avert serious medical complications that could end in death. It is absurd to tell a woman that she must take the chance of death because a fetus means more to the world than she does.

Even when precautions are taken, not everything always goes as planned. Even with birth control and condoms, accidents can and will happen. These are not one hundred percent safe. An unexpected pregnancy can place tension on a family and drop them to economic instability. This could result in the child not getting the amount of attention that it desperately needs.

It could also result in the child not getting a good amount of medical care or other things that are needed for a baby to survive outside of it's mother. Since the mother will not be able to work for a long time, the father will have to be able to make up for the loss of income. He will either have to work a lot of overtime, or get a second job. This puts a lot of pressure on the father and can lead to very unhappy homes. The dictionary lists a person as being an individual or as existing as an indivisible whole. An unborn fetus can't exist as an individual; it must be connected to the mother to survive.

Therefore, it is impossible for the fetus to have the same rights as the mother since it interferes with the mothers right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. If the woman decides to give birth to the baby, she gives up these rights to the child while she is carrying it. A government that would make a woman give up these rights, and not let her choose for herself, wouldn't really be based on the liberties of all.
