1,358 words
The people in society have become selfish, ignorant, greedy, and egotistical. People running businesses have forgotten what loyalty means, and have centered their minds only on making profits. If the head of an office gives a bad example or shows that they do not care for their businesses, their employees will not show any dedication or enthusiasm for making the business succeed. Businesspeople think only about one thing, money, and that brings a dow full in their business, causing more problems for their employees.

A businessman always has to remember his codes of moral and ethics, especially when he is responsable of what he sells to his community and the rights of his employees. One of the problems that occurs in many businesses is when younger workers replace older ones who still work there. the younger workers could work faster, and are more familiarized with the new advance in technology. The owner of a business has to keep in mind that the senior employees have worked with him for many years, and that they have been loyal to the business. As an owner of a supermarket, it is my responsibility to make decisions concerning the rights and benefits of my employees, and what I sells to the community I serve. Mr Mills is one of my older employees.

He has been working with me for many years as a produce manager. He has show loyalty for the business and has helped to make the business grow. Now one of my new and younger employees is complaining that Mr. Mills doesn't work as fast as he should work and that Perez-2 he is getting paid more. Since Mr. mills has been working with me for many years, as a business person I have to see how my employees work and recognize the quality of work they produce. Mr. Mills has been a hard working man all the years he has been with me. He has won my trust in the business.

He has shown me the quality of work he does. Mr. Mills knows all the work in the produce department. Mr Mills has expend many years in the company, and he has work like as the business was his; not many employees take this position at work. A business person has to do what is right for the business, by not ignoring his morals and ethics. Because Mr. Mills is an older employee, it would be hard for him to find a job because of his age. The job as a manager doesn't really require a person to be fast or to be young, it really demand a person to have knowledge, experience to perform the work.

A younger worker would not have the experience that Mr. Mills have. The younger employees sometimes don't put much effort into the work they do. They just want to do the job and that's it. As a older worker Mr. Mills has learn to love what he does and has acquired experience. Any business person would like to have workers that really cares for the job they perform.

I have to make a decision on what to do with Mr. Mills situation, as a business person that I am, I don't want to make a decision that would affect my company or to violate Mr. Mills rights as a employee. Every employee have his rights in a company that have to be respect by the owner of a business, and make sure they are been put into action, and not being violated. I would check the past years records, and from them I would make a decision on what to do with Mr. Mills. I also have to take into Perez-3 consideration that Mr. Mills has been a friend of my father, before the company was established. Back then he won my father trusts, and now he has mine by performing a great job all these years. Mr. Mills has shown that I can trusts him on the business.

Many younger employees, when they get a job they want to get pay the same or more then the older employees, and when this happens they become greedy, selfish. They would being to look for ways to get what they want. If a business person is not aware of what it is happening, he can make mistakes that it would be hard to solve later on. That's why I have to look for the best way to solve Mr. Mills problem with out making any mistakes, that would affect my business or Mr. Mills life in a way that would make me feel guilty. That's why I have make use of my knowledge, and my own moral and ethics principles, to make the best decision.

Mr. Mills has been a very responsable person on the job he perform. He has make decisions that have benefit my company, and that is something I have to take into consideration. Mr. Mills would continue working as a produce manager. My younger employee would keep doing the same job he have been doing, later on I would make some adjustment on the department. Having ethics and integrity, people influence others and encourage them to behave in similar manner. A person has to care for his employees as part of the family, because that's what employees are in a business.

There " re many principles of business ethics that a businessman should practice. Robert C. Solomon wrote an article stating the " Principles of Business ethics" which he calls " The Rules of the Game", which he describes as the " eight crucial rules for ethical Perez-4 thinking in business" (387). In rule one he gives the golden rule which every person should know " Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"; or "Do not do unto others as you would not have them do unto you". These rules everyone should always keep in mind and put in use. Of Solomon's eight rules, I most agree with rule number four " Think of yourself and your company as part of society, not just the market" (388). Businesses are made to serve the society in which we live.

A person who doesn't think on the benefits that the business offers to the people would not last long, because there is not business without people. Solomon says" Think objectively" (388), business people have to think from other people's perspectives and from a larger viewpoints. When it comes to making a decision, Gerald F. Cavanag in his article " Ethics in Business" presents the basic method of making ethical judgments. Cavanag addresses the ethical norms for making a right decision on business. Which help me solve Mr. Mills situation by using the basic method of making ethical judgment which involves just three steps: " (1) gathering relevant factual information, (2) determining the moral norm that is most applicable, and (3) making the ethical judgment on the rightness or wrongness of the act or policy" (395).

We have to try to handle some ethical decisions with care, and more those that affect other people. Business people have to think in terms of compliance with the rules, implicit as well as explicit, thinking in term of avoiding harmful consequences to others as well as to oneself. Been greedy, and self-indulgent won't help a business grow. We have to follow our codes of moral and ethics to have a better business, an dto make a better society. Work Cited Cavanag Gerald F".
