Ms Vandoren example essay topic
Although each job taught Ms. VanDoren more about the company and how the different aspects of the business work together, she enjoyed most her assignment to co-managed the Transition Center from 1994-1996. The Transition Center provided support groups and assessments to help individuals, who lost their job, discover new careers and find new jobs. If you have not noticed, Ms. VanDoren has been committed to helping others throughout her employment. Even in retirement she plans to become a certified substitute teacher and provide individual career consulting. "Retirement will afford me the freedom to work at things that makes me happy and bring me joy: things that provide me a sense of contribution". Along with having mixed emotions about her separation from PSE&G, she is anxious to explore new avenues and will miss the people she has worked with over the years.
According to Ms. VanDoren, PSE&G has evolved from a very paternalistic to a revenue-focused organization. The central focus has moved from customer operations to shareholders and cost. The company has transcended from a rigid hierarchy to a flatter, more open environment. The implementation of greater diversification, not in terms of gender or race, but in an appreciation for the differences in our contributions, is needed. In regards to career development and personal growth, Ms. VanDoren advises employees to, "take the time to figure out what you want from your life, then determine how you can accomplish those goals, never stop learning, and don't be afraid to share". Finally and most importantly she states, "Focus on being the best person you can be for the rest of your life.
