'Music' is a word with several meanings, to some it is simply entertainment, a pleasure they enjoy indulging in when they are bored of going out. For others it is an escape, a sanctuary away from the world, society, and the chaos that surrounds their hectic, everyday lives. Music plays a very important role in the very fabric of our lives; often used to reflect how someone feels towards an individual or an object or to evoke suppressed emotions. People have a variety of personality types, which can be reflected by the types of music they listen too. Some people enjoy a good rhythmic sound that they can dance to; they appreciate music like R&B or Hip-hop. Other people enjoy just sitting and listening as the music weaves its melodious spell, whether the fairy-like strains of Enya or the rolling notes of Strauss. Others, such as myself, prefer intense music that is based on the use of drums and electric instruments. Still others would take a classic trance, rave or techno mix over anything else anyone could put together.

Even different regions of the world favor different types of music - Eastern music is a thinner sound without a lot of blending of chords, while the West listens to music with a thicker sound and a greater blend of tones. Although the understanding and interpretation of music varies among different age groups, many times the music is designed to attract one certain age over another. To the younger crowds, music such as heavy metal, Pop, R&B, or Rap containing loud, up-to-date, and exciting sound effects often seem more appealing. Adults, in many instances, appreciate the more calm and soft approach towards music, expressed in the 'classics' - even if everyone has a different view of what the classics are.

Interpretations of music vary among those understanding the nuances of the soul of music.
