My Degree Completion example essay topic

Goals are an important part of my life. As a single parent, I am a role model for my child. Therefore setting and accomplishing goals have become important to me. My son and I write a list of goals we want to achieve; as we reach our goals we mark them off and add more. I have always expressed the importance of education and learning to my son.

Now that he is in the fifth grade, he has made a decision to achieve excellent grades so that he can attend an Ivy League university. This has persuaded me to practice what I preach by reaching my set goals. My choice to return to school and achieve a degree completion is now finally going to be reached. While reaching this goal, I also hope to reach other objectives along the way, which include improving my communication skills, managing time more efficiently, and having high academic success. The University of Phoenix has given me an opportunity. I had previously put on hold.

My ultimate goal is to complete a college degree. I first began my collegiate experience with my focus on a Nursing degree at Rose State College. After two years of attending consecutive classes, four classes per semester, I was discouraged from completing my degree due to financial constraints and time. It was very hard to attend classes and study to attain high academic achievement while working full-time and caring for my child. Throughout the past several years, I have been working in the business administration field at various places of employment. I enjoy this field, and have decided to change my career goal from Nursing to Business Administration.

Ultimately, I hope to combine my business knowledge with my foreign language skills and interest to achieve my dream of becoming an interpreter. Being an interpreter will help me fulfill my desire to help others and work in the business industry. I continuously strive to improve myself, by learning, utilizing, and developing new skills. I believe the more knowledge and new challenges I give myself, the more I improve my self-image. Also, the way I perceive myself will reflect on how others see me. A high self-image will help me take charge of business opportunities that may arise and have the confidence to take on more challenges.

Through my classes I hope to obtain better communication skills. Although, I will probably always have an Oklahoma accent, I hope to be able to speak in a manner that draws attention from my accent and towards my knowledge and expertise. There is so much stereotyping in today's society that I feel that proper communication and grammar skills have become a necessity for southerners in the corporate industry. Not only do I have an accent, but also I am blonde. I currently have to prove myself more than others at my place of employment. So I consider those two things to be dilemmas that must be disguised or overlooked by future associates to gain respect in the business industry.

It is important that I be able to present myself as a competent, intelligent individual to prevent being overlooked for advancement of employment opportunities. Another goal I have set for myself is to complete my courses with a perfect GPA. In order to do this I will to utilize time management and study skills wisely. It was exciting for me to become familiar with the learning style techniques. I think this will become very useful in my goal to achieve high academic standing at the University of Phoenix. I am excited to be able to use some of this knowledge to complete assignments and study for future exams.

I strive to be the best I can be at every task that I take on. I hope that this will benefit me in my studies and not cause a hindrance when I am unable to perfect a task. Furthermore, I will continue my education beyond a Bachelors degree, once my first business administration degree is completed. Ultimately, I know that only I can reach my goals and am the key to my own success. Finally, I believe that once I have met my degree completion I will feel more complete as an individual and be able to reach a higher earning potential.

I am excited about the opportunity and flexibility that the University of Phoenix has given me to enable me to reach all of my goals. I look forward to my future..
