Shelly K lyk November 3, 2003 I have recently given a lot of careful thought and consideration as to what I foresee happening in my future. I have begun to think and concentrate on some life long goals for myself. For many years I have just went day by day trying to make ends meet. I am currently employed at a restaurant as a waitress, where I have worked for seven years. It is now that I have realized that I can do better for myself and for my family.

I am also currently taking care of my grandmother who is disabled with the Alzheimer Disease and is wheelchair bound due to a broken hip. Along with caring for my grandmother, I also care for my father who has many disabilities as a result of juvenile diabetes. He is blind, has had several limb amputations, heart surgeries and stokes. Caring for my families medical and survival needs has caused me to feel needed and capable of things more than serving food to patrons. I have gained a new respect for my abilities and have decided that I want to return to school and one day help others in need and earn the salary that goes along with doing so. The first step in setting my personal and / or lifestyle goals for my life is achieving a sense of financial security.

I need to obtain a decent career in order to help provide for a family of seven. I have a stressful time trying to make ends meet. Now as I have taken the first step in the right direction and enrolled in a degree program I will be able to achieve my goals. My long term educational goal is to earn my degree in Bachelor in Science of Health Services. From there I will use my degree to pursue a job in health care where I am sure would start me off at the bottom of the totem pole and I will have to work my way to the top with benefits and an increase in my paycheck. My short term goals are to form a routine and schedule that will be realistic and doable.

With the numerous obligations I have going on day after day with my part time job and being a mother of five we have basketball practices and games and / or baseball practices or games all of which my kids are on different teams. Plus there are my sports and coaching obligations. I need to somehow structure my times appropriately to allow myself ample time for my studies and assignments. I have already wrote this weeks events in a calendar as to study times and other various entries to designate appropriate times accordingly. My goal is to reach a set routine and achieve my new routine come the end of my first class which is in roughly four weeks.

Also I have chosen to set a sleep pattern to help ensure ample sleep and help myself create energy by setting a bedtime for myself and a wake up time. This is suppose to help with energy and awareness per a sleep expert said in a magazine I read. Although there are five separate goals in life areas they are all connected to each other. For example your personal goals including your character, personality and physical appearance will affect your family.

Whether it be your kids or siblings because they look up to you. You are their role model. What they see is what they often become. And school and / or career will indeed affect your lifestyle and your financial situation because your finances come from your career. If you really think about it no matter how you plan or set your goals your career (or your job in my situation because a waitress is not my career) seems to always wind up a your top priority. For instance your daily life is planned around your work schedule.

Also your lifestyle is planned around your paycheck. Then there is your family that is high on priority but we sometimes have to compromise family time to accommodate other priorities like homework, housework, baseball games and doctors and so on and so forth. Knowing that all the areas of my life are intertwined I am choosing to build a foundation for my life by setting goals and following a routine. This period in my life will be focused on my education and career goals. I feel this will allow me to find the inner side of myself and see how much I can achieve. In time I will look for a hands on job to help me with my upcoming classes.

But for now my time spent taking online classes through University of Phoenix will not only teach and educate me the required skills for my career, but also teach me more about myself and who and what I can become..
