My Final Goal Concerns Life After College example essay topic
Like any seasoned traveler, I have departed from home with a destination in mind. Upon arriving at college, I determined that I would spend my four years in a definite pursuit of new experiences and new ideas. By joining clubs, playing sports, contributing to intellectual discussions, and listening to lectures, I feel that I can collect a wide variety of assets. First, through involvement, I will be able to learn more about myself. Through interacting with others and exchanging ideas, I will be able to recognize my strengths and weaknesses.
Furthermore, I will have the knowledge to formulate informed opinions on certain matters and hopefully acquire the confidence to share my thoughts. The second reason for my desire to become involved is in order to contribute to the college community. By being involved in various activities, I will be able to see the college from many perspectives. If I have any concerns about the way the college is working or if I have any ideas for new projects or clubs, I will therefore have both the knowledge and the connections to put these concepts into action. The final reason that I wish to become involved concerns my philosophy on education. Many times, I believe, there is too much emphasis placed on grades.
Although I recognize that grades are important for various reasons, I think that the focus should instead be placed on comprehension and application to real situations. Like any student, I am concerned about the health of my grade point average, but as I venture into college life I hope that I will be able to personally place more emphasis on learning rather than grades. Through conversing with other students and involving myself in various activities, I plan to accomplish this goal. Another goal I wish to achieve while at college is to devote more time to reading and writing. As two of my favorite pastimes, they were neglected during my years at high school. My final goal concerns life after college.
Although I am a declared English major, I have not chosen a decisive career path yet. Currently, I am thinking about law school. If I decide to attend law school, I will be focusing on environmental law. I am also considering publishing as a possible career path.
Regardless of my final decision, I plan on attending graduate school after my four years at Hartwick College. Through internships and interview, I hope to have a definite career path established by my senior year.
