My Response To 9/11 September 11, 2001 has marked its spot in history. I remember the day just like it was yesterday. It was about 8: 00 or 9: 00 in the morning and I was on the way to the dentist. I remember turning on the radio thinking why aren't the Disc Jockeys playing any songs. As I was getting ready to turn off the radio, my mother to leave it on. That is when I heard the Dj say two planes have crashed into the World Trade Center. For a minute I didn't understand what was going on, but as I kept listening, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. All I could think of was my city going to be next. I do admit that was scared as the day progressed. All kind of thoughts was going through my head. I remember thinking that my mother's job was next, because she worked for the Internal Revenue Service. I didn't want her to go to work that day.
I didn't want to be anywhere near the downtown area. The day went on, and my mother went to work and I went to school. Everyone was talking about it. As the day went on, I believe everyone all over the world was alert. People were talking about this could be the start of World War. I just wish this never happened.
Even though it did happen, things began to change rapidly. After the attacks happened, America began to unite. People were all of a sudden raising their American flags, faithfully and proudly. A lot of people lot loved ones in the attacks, which also brought us closer together. Everyone wanted to know who was responsible for this mass destruction.
After a few months of debating, President, George W. Bush, declares "The War against Terrorism". He calls all National troops to go and fight this war. Of those troops that were called was my stepfather. When told the family was going to be deployed, the whole family was deeply saddened. I guess that when you hear of people having to go to war, you don't feel affected by it until it is a loved one of yours. March of 2003, is a month that I will never forget because it was as if my whole way of life was altered.
Immediately my heart went out to all of the bereaved families as well as those who had loved ones going into the war. My overall thought pertaining to September 11, 2001 is that it never should have happened. I feel that war doesn't solve things. Peace can be the number one problem solver if we would let it be. In the infamous words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along.".
