Name Of Cory example essay topic

315 words
Origin of My Name As a family rooted in the Catholic Tradition I was given the name of a prestigious saint, Saint Michael to be more precise. The name Michael has Latin roots and means "One Who is Like God". I was also dealt the name of Michael to pay tribute to my mom's brother, who is also named Michael. Besides the reasons stated above there is no real special reason that I was named Michael. Now for most of my life, until I came to AU, I went by the name of Cory, which is my middle name. Now this is an interesting story to tell and everyone always asks why I go by Cory.

While growing up my mom still lived with her parents and brother. At the time my mother was also unmarried and had her maiden name of Maxson. To lessen the confusion in the house I went by Cory Maxson rather than have two Michael Maxson living in the same house, and from then on my name became Cory. I changed back to Mike for several reasons. I was unhappy and college seemed a good time to change a couple things, close some bad chapters in my life.

I decided that I would leave Cory in the past and start a whole new me. I also felt that I was growing up and that I needed to have a more "professional" sounding name than Cory, so I started using Mike. I never really liked Cory, it wasn't popular, people always misspelled it (put that e in it), and I just thought that Mike sounded better. When I hear the name mike I think power, respect, and prestige. I don't know why I think this I just do, perhaps its my Catholic background and school ong.
