Name Of Le Corbusier example essay topic
In 1902 he built an engraved clock, which was exhibited and admired greatly. Although he had proved to have a gift for drawing, his interests were directed more towards architecture. This was due to painter and sculptor Charles L'Eplattenier, who also happened to be a professor at his school. Le Corbusier received his first commission in 1905. He was to design and build a villa for a member of the faculty of the art school. By 1908, he had designed and built two more villas.
However, from 1907 to 1911, most of his time was spent traveling. He traveled to Italy, Hungary and Austria. In France he worked under Auguste Perret, a pioneer in the use of reinforced concrete, for fifteen months. In Germany he worked under Peter Behrens, who had vast knowledge in the area of designing and industrial planning. It made Le Corbusier realize the importance of industry. After his trips, he devoted the following five years to teaching in the art school in Chaux-de-Fonds.
In 1914, Le Corbusier produced his first plans for Dom-ino houses. It had six columns, not unlike the six dots on a domino piece. The floors, stairs, and columns were the fixed parts of the house. The rest was flexible. The walls, windows and other aspects of the house could be set to the liking of the owner. This design was made to improve on the damage that World War I had caused, however, it remained only a plan.
Three years later, Le Corbusier decided to settle in Paris, where he produced his first paintings. He considered himself more of a painter than an architect during the war because of the difficulty obtaining architectural commissions. He befriended Ozenfant, a fellow painter, and held an exhibition the following year. It was then he adopted the name "Le Corbusier", applying it more to his architectural works than his paintings. The productive period of Le Corbusier began in 1922. He set up his famous studio with the help of his cousin, Pierre Jeanneret.
He designed Ozenfant's house and exhibited designs for a "Ville Contemporaine". It was capable of housing more than three million people. Many more designs followed in the following years. This includes the La Roche house, designed in 1923 to 1924, and the E spirit Nouveau pavilion at the 1925 Exhibition of Decorative Art. In 1925, he was commissioned to design and build two hundred houses at Pes sac. However, due to great local hostility, only forty were built.
In 1927, he entered a competition for the Palace of the League of Nations in Geneva, and was unsuccessful at winning first prize. This caused a national outcry, and many lawsuits. It also led to the founding of the first Congress at the Chateau de La Sar raz. Afterwards, he designed furniture in collaboration with his cousin. He also designed the Centrosoyus Building in Moscow.
Soon after, he became interested in town planning and was commissioned to build two buildings. Le Corbusier retired to Southern France during World War II, and mainly painted and wrote. He published a book, which was to become one of the basic textbooks of modern town planning. In 1945 to 1946 he prepared town plans for two more cities. In 1950, he designed the Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut at Ron chap. He used his Modular system to help him build this place.
The Modular system was a proportionate scale of the human body, which was developed by he and his colleagues. However, most of the 1950's were devoted to Chandigarh, the new capital of Punjab. He was also responsible for a number of houses and a museum in Ahmedabad. The rebuilding of the center of Berlin and the Olivetti Electronic Center were not carried out. A hospital in Venice was also left unfinished when Le Corbusier died of a heart attack while bathing at Cap Martin on August 27th, 1965. Le Corbusier influenced the world of architecture significantly.
He produced new ideas that drastically changed what people thought of art. His accomplishments made an impact on the environment around us, and perhaps our own lives..
