With a house full of drivers and watching them operate cars from day to day, was amazement. It almost became a passion to learn. As the years were coming close to fill the gap in which I would be able to legally drive a car, the anticipation grew as well. The pages began to flip as my brain began to absorb all the techniques, rules and regulations that any driver needs to know in order to operate a vehicle. Finally on a chilly autumn afternoon, the time came to pour my brains out on the written exam.
Nervously, the exam was completed in about two to three minutes. As nervous eyes locked a dead stare at the grader's pen a feeling of happiness began to strike and from a distance a two-thumbs up was the final verdict. On the completion of the first stage, the grueling process of acquiring the actual skill of getting on the road was still ahead. This is the point in which the best of drivers would become frightened. My father was very hesitant at first. He saw that it would be very difficult and also quite dangerous as well.
From the moment that this seat was taken seatbelt buckled, mirrors of the past were adjusted. Not forgetting to watch my own back and not forgetting the past as well as the future that would be the view in front of me, as I would drive. As I changed the gears for the first time I realized that this was a new beginning in which that news lessons would be learned. Pulling out of the parking and all my family they " re rooting me on, as this would be a new venture on life. Making the first turn wasn't easy at all but it came time to turn more often it became easier.
What was learned here is that the more it was done the easier it became. The strangest part was parking. The peculiar part was that it was a breeze and never gave me problems. As he would take me out from a day to day basis my view of the road changed into a new light. Besides the fact that the skills got better and better, the relationship due to the time spent was growing also.
We conversed and joked and the father-daughter relationship flourished. We shared a common interest. On a side note, my father is a very strict and course guy. Everyone also saw a change in him, as he would be on a lighter of things more often. As graduation rolled around the corner, we had a second driver in the family. To accommodate this occasion and congratulate me in the way they seemed fit, they bought me a new car!
After all the excitement was over, reality kicked in, as it became apparent the amount of readiness and confidence exploding within. It was time to get licensed to fully operate a car without a babysitter and special precautions. On the hot summer morning the sun was shining and my wheels were on route to get licensed. Of course on the company of my father, he spoke and gave me last minute pointers and the nervousness kicked in. As car after car, instructor verdicts after verdict, smiles and frowns, faces of disappointment, it was finally the time when my instructor occupied the passenger seat. Hands shaking heart pounding, the cars pulled out and within four minutes flat the test was over.
"You are now qualified to drive a car", she said. That was one of the joyous moments ever experienced for my whole family. My dream came true and now driving is a hobby as well as a reminder of life. Getting my license and learning how to drive a car wasn't just a task for me. It held great significance and value.
Not only was my passion being fed but also my point of view of the people and world was changing my outlook on life. The newfound relationships and the true meaning of happy family was felt. Through these experiences people mature and become less ignorant. They find certain things less important and a new value in a new light. Through support and love from your loved ones, it holds true, that anything is possible!
