It was the curiosity and greed of countries in search of goods, anything that could bring in riches that lead to establishment in this new land. The English in particular would stop at nothing to expand their territory. At times they had to defend themselves, from either outside intruders or domestic quarrels. But the main component was greed. The force that eliminated Indians, battled other countries, and sparked conflict between themselves.

For some pioneers it began as a break of power and religious ties from Brittan. The original intent was to live not under oppression. To start a new life, with free will of each individual and sever any connection with Brittan. Not all ties were broken, and that life of free will was short lived.

No man could govern himself properly. A new order was formed. Not only were goods being taken from the new land, but his majesty also taxed the people to outrageous measures. Rebellion was at hand, as the people rose up against the throne of England. These "people" slowly began calling themselves American.

Government formed. War was fought in the name of Independence. And after America was recognized as its own separate country, it continued in the original path of greed that English had first conceived. We created the Northwest Ordinance, sold land that wasn't ours to begin with, killed anyone who got in the way, and also added the possibility of more states. The Louisiana Purchase was a big gain of land for America.

And everyone had their sites on gaining more western territory. We must have forgotten the purpose of the first pioneers, because as that is important at this time is land and money, which equals power. To get to where we are now, we would have to be somewhat greedy. If we didn't, our lives would be totally different from what they are now. We are the most powerful country in the entire free world, with the largest diverse group of race than any other country.

Yes, we are a successful country. Greed may have helped us just a little..
