New York THE EMPIRE STATE New York is in the northeastern United States. It is one of the middle atlantic states. The Dutch built its first settlements. Then, England ruled New York for more than a hundred years. In 1788, New York became one of the original 13 states. First I am going to tell you how New York became the 11th state.
