Number Of Hours A Part Time Job example essay topic
The more hours one works, the less time remains for academics. This is an interesting question because a strong belief in either direction will lead to a student to either go to CEGEP without having a part-time job or being quite active in their work. A student who completes CEGEP with a diploma in hand and without having to work a part-time job is what seems most ideal. The next step is to go head fist into the career of your dreams.
These students, unfortunately, lack the required work experience. A student can no get a job, because they haven't already had one. Job experiences give students the opportunity to work in a field of their choice, giving them a better chance for future employment in that domain. If work is not related to the student's future career, benefits are still there. Holding a part-time job leads to a greater sense of responsibility for the student. A student can improve self-organization, learn about his / her strengths and weaknesses and gain self-confidence.
An alternative explanation to my proposition that a part-time job affects academic performance negatively is that CEGEP students take the part time job more seriously then classes at the CEGEP level. The reason that I make this statement is that at the college level, teachers are not pushing students for their work, their attendance, and can get away with inappropriate classroom behavior. At a part-time job, employers are strict about attendance, performance, and behavior, including dress code. If an employee doesn't follow the regulations, then the pay is revoked or worse, the job is lost. At school, the worse that can occur is a student fails a class, pays a fine, and moves on. I think if missing school and slaking off had the same consequences as it has at a job, then students would be more in tune with academics.
A part-time job is an employment for a certain number of hours per week. It is not a full time employment. A CEGEP student is a student who is registered in school at the college level, usually between the ages of 17 to 22. Academic performance refers to the grades received overall, in courses. A part-time job can be operational ized by stating the number of hours a part time job.
Usually part-time employees work on two-week nights, and 1 weekend. That totals to approximately 18 hours of work. Therefore eighteen hours, no matter in how many days it is completed in, is the cut off point for part-time work. A CEGEP student can be said to full time registered students in a program with a regular course load, and between the ages of 17 to 22 years old. An acceptable academic performance is generally an overall sixty percent average and above. The actual hypothesis that will be tested is that working a part-time job leads to poor academic performance, due to not enough hours or study and review.
The independent variable is the part time job, being the one that affects the dependant variable, which is academic performance. The second hypothesis derived from the alternative proposition is that a part-time leads to poor academic performance due to students not taking school as seriously as their work.
