You will see many problems related to the welfare system. I myself was forced to go on the welfare system years ago. You will see some of the problems associated with public assistance on sometimes how it works and sometimes it doesn't.

There are many people in the USA would could use this public assistance program and are denied for hideous reasons. AFDC: (Aid to Families with Dependent Children) The Welfare System Problem Statement Despite the phenomenal growth in the national economy during the past three decades, dependence on all welfare programs increased dramatically. Although total welfare spending is but a small part of total government spending, the total monies spent and the percentage of participants has substantially increased. This has been particularly true of AFDC.

Until recently, the percentage of AFDC recipients increased even during periods of relatively low unemployment. Some people have believed that reliance on AFDC had become certain recipients, welfare has indeed become a way of life even though most a disincentive to work Recipients of the Welfare System: What further reform is being proposed? The Bush Administration has proposed to significantly expand welfare reform by: O Increasing the required level of work for poor parents from 30 hours to 40 hours a week. O Increasing the percentage of welfare recipients that hold jobs from 50 percent to 70 percent by 2008.

O No longer permitting recipients would to count education as a "work activity". O Offering new money for marriage strengthening programs. O Freezing federal funding for cash assistance at 1996 levels. The primary criticism of the Bush proposal is that it does not include sufficient child care funding to accomplish the work participation goals.

The House has passed legislation which incorporates the Bush proposal and the matter is now pending with the Senate. Summary After reading the article on the Welfare system, I personally feel that the welfare needs to be given to those really in need. I had to raise 4 children by myself at one time I was forced to go on welfare for about three years. I was working, paying all the bills, but there was never enough money to feed my children. Every time I had a few extra dollars that I would save from time to time, one of the kids would get sick, or need shoes or coat for school. I had to spend what I had when I had it in order to provide for my children.

I do know that people get welfare just for the heck of it. I know people (drug addicts) who get food stamps and sell them for drugs and their children who were hungry hardly got a chance to eat. I know people think about your being poor and that is ok, all I knew and cared about at the time was to feed my kids and so that was what I'd done. I think that people will not really understand until they have been there and done that. Now, I have lost my job this month, and my husband income is not enough to provide for the whole family.

I have to take whatever is out there to make ends meet. If going to get public assistance "again" to feed my kids then that's what I will do. I feel that I do pay taxes and should get some of my money back while I can. I also feel that if someone is responsible enough to have a child than that person should be held accountable for that child's well being. The government should not be taking care of children because of their parent's laziness. I do understand the extreme circumstances in which a family's main "bread winner" loses their job or a home is destroyed by an act of God.

Those should be where the government steps in and assists in a family's needs. It should not be when the parent is just too lazy to work and they want to stay home with their children. (One of my classmates quotes). I totally disagree, because first of all you will never know how it is until you have been there. I am looking for a job, day after day. I have seen on television where highly educated people aren't even obtaining jobs.

These people were making around $75,000.00 a year, and the husband lost his "great" job and they had to sell everything they had including the house. They went on welfare for a couple of months and her husband still do not have a job. (The Dr. Phil show). Conclusion on how can I help myself, and others to be strong individuals and live life as it comes. To stay determined to do what ever needs possible to challenge your expectations.

To keep your head up high no matter what conclusions and decisions you make from this day forward. I think that the welfare system need to change, in only helping those really in need and stop turning people down for hideous reasons. Not qualified reasons: REASONS: 1. If you have a car worth of $5,000.00 Reason: They want you to sell your car and use that money for use Question: If you sell the car how are you to get to work 2. If you have over $3,000.00 in the bank Reason: Use the money in the bank first then come back Question: If I do that who is going to pay the rent 3. If you make over $900 a month ($10,800.00 a year) ($5.19 an hr) with 3 kids Reason: You make to much money Question: All I need help with is food There is a difference between food stamps and AFDC.

Food stamps only provide for nor Food. AFDC they give you a check for nothing over $350.00 a month to pay your rent and bills...
