Obsession With Person example essay topic
Websters Dictionary defines obsession as The act of besieging and The state of being besieged used specifically of a person beset by a spirit from without. The definition provided in the dictionary is clear, however, I would like to accentuate on the use of this word in regular life and on understanding of the word by people. Certainly, obsession is the feeling. Overwhelming emotions that cannot leave the brain after having experienced something is the obsession.
This word can be used in describing the broad range of thoughts, but obsession is an emotion and a response to the thing that have caused emotion. Emotions can be actually quite different, whether positive or negative. In my opinion, obsession accentuates mainly on positive emotions, however, for one people these emotions are viewed as positive and by others, they might be negative. How many times did you hear someone saying: I am obsessed with her / him ? Can you say that it is a negative emotion, because in such a case obsession is rather attraction, but not love.
However, obsession is not just about feelings of attraction to a person; it can be attraction to an experience, item, utility, etc. To figure out whether obsession is negative or positive, it is enough to find whether attraction that exists is to negative or positive things. Attraction to something that brings pleasure is positive; however, if you cannot get what you want, then this attraction brings negative feeling. Therefore, obsession depends mainly what attracts a person. Obsession can be also a bad habit if a person is obsessed with some object that the person will never possess. Such an obsession wears off an individual, however, if this obsession drives a person to reach the goal, then such an obsession will serve an individual as a reinforcement, which brings us to a philosophical question what is reinforcement obsession itself, or the object a person is obsessed with.
In my opinion, both of them are. Mainly, the obsession is the great desire to have or to experience something. I think it is good to be obsessed (not too severely though) with some object than not to have any interest in the world. Interest is what drives a person to have a desire to own the object that is needed or more usually just wanted. This desire creates an obsession. The explanation why I think that the object, which causes obsession, is more wanted than needed can be found if just to look through the memories and to remember the obsession of the past.
If to sort at least five recent obsessions (not the ones you are currently have) in the head, it will be clear that your obsessions were caused by wants, not by needs. This shows the nature of obsession. I think that everybody experiences obsession at least once a day. People used to say that they never are obsessed with something; however, I am sure that they are obsessed with everything! Our whole life is an obsession! Everybody wants to earn more money what for?
Do not we have enough? If we still exist, it means that the money we have is enough, but why then we need more to live better. Moreover, this to live better is actually an obsession. This to live better can be for one person a new Ferrari, for another a meal in the restaurant, etc. It includes everything we want from life. People want happiness in life; therefore, I can conclude that obsession is the pursuit of happiness..
