It is important to know where you are going in life. It is equally important to know how to get there. The likelihood of reaching the goal (s) is greater if the goal is known. The more success in setting a goal, the greater the probability there is in reaching the goal. I recall illustrating in a sermon once delivered the concept of planning the work and then working the plan.

That is the mentality needed to truly reach the goal (s) set. An optimist expects the best possible result or and focuses on the most favorable aspects of the situation. Pessimists stress the negatives and take the gloomiest possible paths. Everyone has been afforded the opportunity to choose which road to take in life. I believe it is up to me to decide.

Upon those precepts, I decided to enroll into the University of Phoenix (UOP). After enrolling, I knew it was necessary to have an obtainable goal, have some plans in place, maintain focus, and do my best. I have decided upon several goals, three of which I believe is more obtainable and most advantageous and beneficial to me at this time in my life. I want to obtain a degree.

I want to increase my knowledge of a subject that is conducive to my pursuit of life's comfort and happiness. And, I want to make practical the standard I teach my daughter, which is, education first. I researched and evaluated several possible paths and decided that I wanted a degree in the shortest possible time. Enrolling at the University of Phoenix was the easiest and most expedient way of obtaining a degree for me. In addition, while in pursuit of the degree, I still need to be available and accountable to my family.

No other institute of higher learning could provide these crucial components. I realized enrolling at UoP would be most efficient and convenient. Moreover, the teamwork at UOP is what I need. At my age and with my intense involvement with my family and church, I believe teamwork is inevitable for my achievement as a student at UOP. As a student, I want to increase and broaden my knowledge of business management. My wife and I have given great consideration and intense thought to establishing a business of our own.

We know what we want to do, but feel that more knowledge is needed for a smooth operation. She is graduating in a couple of months with a BSN from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA. We both feel that I would benefit most with the business degree. I examined the core curriculum for a business degree at UOP. I compared it to other universities within close proximity and UOP, in no uncertain terms, was the school of choice. Because of its unique method of teaching instruction, the degree is relevant, reliable, and rewarding.

I decided to enroll at the UOP for the benefit of my daughter as well. My goal is to set an example by obtaining a degree. She knows that at one time I attended college. She also knows that I did not complete my studies. I, along with my wife, stress the importance of education. I instill in her often that the more education an individual has, the more marketable / selective the individual becomes.

I tell her that a degree is resourceful. These personal goals are by far not unattainable. However, much work is required. I embrace the old adage, 'anything worth having is work working for". I will make great efforts to achieve the personal goals I have set. I am up for the challenge and have purpose in my heart and mind that if it will be, I will be up to me.
