To Kill a Mockingbird Projects Choose one of the following projects. 1. Design an edition of Maycomb's newspaper that recounts some of the events in the novel. You may do this as a group of no more than three. The size of the newspaper will depend on the number of people doing the project. Talk to me about it. 2. Construct a scrapbook that might have been made by a character in the novel.
Moments such as newspaper clippings, photographs, letters and other such items may all be "saved" in this scrapbook. There should be some writing as well explaining the importance of the items as the character might have seen them. 3. Complete a map of Maycomb. Read the novel carefully for clues as to what the town looks like. Annotate the map so that major events or characters are associated with proper locations.
As an alternative you may consider a scale model, but this is more time consuming. 4. Add a chapter to the novel describing Maycomb in 2001. What sort of progress has been made in the town?
What do they remember of events of 1936? How have the events of the novel affected the people of Maycomb? Do the same families still exist? And do they still exhibit the same family traits?
5. The reader of this novel sees the events through the eyes of Scout. Write a description of Tom Robinson's trial and subsequent death through the eyes of one of his children. 6.
Imagine you are an investigative journalist. You are examining the level of racism in the south. Interview as many of the principal characters from the novel as possible. You may set this in any time period. 7. Select one of the major scenes in the novel and script a reader's theatre presentation.
