Of The Soldiers On The Front example essay topic
But as the war goes on, the group discovers how war is not all it is made out to be. As the war went on, they saw their friends either die or be permanently injured. The book stopped when there was only one person left. The book starts out where a group of boys are encouraged to join the military. They thought it would be a great adventure, so they enlisted, not knowing the reality of warfare. At first, they are sent to training.
The yaren t in a serious mood. They think that war conditions aren t as bad as they really are. When they are sent to the front, they start to realize how bad the war really is. They are cramped into the trenches, andthe re is almost constant fire.
Some of the soldiers on the front were shell-shocked because of the constant shelling. When one of the boys was wounded, he was taken to a hospital where there were many wounded soldiers. Some soldiers had to have amputations in order to survive. WhenKemmerich was in the hospital, Muller ask for his pair of boots. The boots were a reminder to the boys about the reality of war. Paul then has to face his own conscience when he kills one of the Frenchmen.
He was stuck in a shell hole and a soldier jumped down at him. After he kills the soldier, he doesn t see the face of an enemy but just a face of another person, just like him. He tries to comfort himself and the soldier by promising to help the fallen soldier's family. After Paul is taken from the front line, he decides to leave and return home. But when he tries to tell everyone at home of the horrible conditions of the trenches, everybody either laughs him off or calls him a coward. Paul returns before his leave actually ended, and he left, wishing that he had never gone home.
In the end, when Paul loses Kat, Paul realizes that the war has destroy his way of life. He has lost all his friend sand has nothing to return to, all because of war. The major theme of All Quiet on the Western Front is that war is a horrible thing and must be avoided because of the severe consequences that fall into place. War causes people to lose friends, worry, and creates a general feeling of uncertainty among innocent people. War also creates hatred among people.
I enjoyed this book because it brought a new meaning to the word war, and it showed the harsh reality of fighting.
