Older Ages example essay topic

Bias against older workers is absurd "Is bias against older workers absurd", was the question asked by Diana Cornish. She said that prejudice against older workers is acceptable and widespread throughout the United States. Many men and women who work in human resources, even those of older ages themselves, say that individuals find it difficult to learn after the age of fifty. I do not agree because an older person can learn just as easily as a younger individual.

A senior manager said that when looking for a job applicant he grabs about 50 applications and throws away those who are under 20 and older than 40. Research has been done to show that these attitudes are garbage. It is said that women in managerial jobs do not like to hire older women because they feel it will be too difficult to control them. I think that it is true that older people are not in as good physical condition as a younger person would be, but that doesn't mean that they can't do their job correctly.

A managing director of Brook Street said that in her earlier working life she was an ageist and she would throw away all the applications that were over 40. As the years have gone by she has tried hiring older people and they do a better job then that of the younger individuals. She said that some of the most successful people in her agency are over the age of 47! In the Bible, the book of Luke 6: 31, it states that we are to treat others how we would want to be treated. Well, I don't think that any person would want to be discriminated because of their age especially when they know that they can do the job just as good as anyone else. I don't understand why there are still many technical, administrative and legal obstacles to hiring people over the official retirement age because older people can do the job.

Studies have shown that there is still bias against older workers. I believe that every person should be treated equally. Whether they are black, white, Hispanic, or they are of an age either younger or older than the normal hiring age. A manager should only look to see if the person is qualified and if they are willing to work to the best of their ability. No matter what age a person is, if they are lazy they will not work to their full potential. So in conclusion, you don't have to be a certain age to work, you just have to have the heart and will to get the job done.
