One Example Of A Band example essay topic

Popular music today has been greatly enhanced by modern technology and is much different from say the music fifty years ago. From my own experience I have discovered that pop music is highly popular among young teenagers or old children whereas I have found that punk rock or heavy metal is usually the older teenagers choice. But of coarse there are exceptions to my beliefs. When we talk about charts we must understand that now-days there are an infinite number of charts around and we must not get one chart mixed up with another, but to add to the confusion also each chart could be based on a different theme like for example one chart could be based on how many albums have been sold while another on how many votes. The point I'm trying to express is that not all charts can be trusted because they could be based on a completely biased category like for example the most colourful hair or the most singers. As well as this though some charts can not be entirely full-proof for example on a voting based chart you might have to vote on a website but this is a problem for people without a computer meaning not one hundred percent of the population vote.

Personally I have no particular individual favourite band, I like a range of bands but I only like two styles of music, which are: punk rock and heavy metal. From the bands I like each one usually produces one or two songs that predominantly stand out to me. Some examples would be "Crawling" by Linkin Park, "Adam's Song" by Blink 182 and "The Kids Aren't All right" by Offspring. These songs were so excellent in my opinion that I utilised the Internet in order to download each of them. The invention of music videos are another multimedia technological advance that has taken place over the years, and some people can even make there own music videos using any footage they like and any song they like, eventually uploading them and making them accessible to download over the internet. I was lucky enough to find these outstanding songs accompanied by footage from my favourite TV show which is an animated series called Dragon Ball Z often abbreviated to DBZ.

From viewing the music videos I downloaded I was able to discover exactly why I enjoy listening to the songs I like and the main reason is because of how the bands are able to express emotions through their songs so powerfully. Another reason I found I appreciated these songs was because of the messages I found each band was trying to convey through their songs like for example "In The End" by Linkin Park conveys a very serious message to all its listeners which is that one day everything will die. The messages are what I believe the purpose of a song to be and I also believe a song that conveys a message well has had a lot of effort put into it. A songs message is usually about a very serious issues that usually affect us all at one point or another in our lifetime this is why I believe songs are important not just to me but everybody. If I have favourite bands I'm sure you could of guessed by now that I have hated bands but I'm not going to just give you a big list of which bands I hate, I will just provide you with one example of a band I hate and a general reason for why I hate bands like that. My most hated band is probably Slipknot and the main reason I despise them is probably because of their style of music that most teenagers would describe today as "Gothic".

There is another reason as well though and that is that I believe the messages if any are lost in their songs and if the message is lost then the song has no purpose or meaning and just becomes confusing. So all as Slipknot are to me is a bunch of weir does wearing stupid masks that scream down the microphone in a deep voice. So the most common reasons I hate a band are usually because of their style of music or if there songs have no meaning from my point of view. Pop Idol and Stars In Their Eyes are two classic examples of a new genre of TV shows that have only really became perfected during 2002. These shows are basically a contest, which have the prize of letting an ordinary person like you or me become a pop star. Basically to get into the show you have to audition and if you are lucky enough to be chosen then you have to survive rounds of elimination which puts a candidates singing, dancing and maybe playing an instrument skills to the test.

These new TV shows are really what some people may call the hot gossip of today; they are probably one of the most modern aspects of the music industry today. As most children and teenagers are probably aware of it is this type of TV show (Pop Idol to be specific) which spawned the now chart topping artist known as Gareth Gates. He has become so popular that he might even beat George Michael to the number one. The point is that in modern times now with enough practise almost anyone could become a star. In conclusion it is almost certain that every generation will have different tastes for music, and styles will change and progress in the future. What I think of, as the modern rave today will soon become in the not too distant future one of the classic "golden oldies".

Accompanying each new generation of bands and people will be technology which will continue to evolve and age, it could get up to the point one day where you might actually be-able to have a conversation with your favourite band or be at their concert in virtual reality, but this is just me thinking theoretically though.
