One Million Dollars example essay topic
So Fifth Avenue was the perfect place of influence for there favorite game that Annabel made up. They would pretend that they had a million dollars to spend, but they could only spend it on their selves, not anyone else. This can actually show how selfish one could be on being able to spend a million dollars solely on one person. They later are walking down the street and find an admirable set of pearls in a shop window. Annabel feeling the devil within her dared Midge to ask the price. The two went in together and in shock, they learned that the pearls were worth a 1/4 of a million dollars.
Midge then states to Annabel, "what if someone died and left you ten million dollars". This just leads you to conclude that they are actually selfish enough that they could find a way to spend ten million dollars on themselves. Point Of View The point of view is 3rd person omniscient, in that it is telling a story of two girls, Annabel and Midge, and their make believe game of spending money. Theme The theme of this story is not to be too greedy, and to be happy with what one has. One doesn't need millions of dollars to buy happiness. One should never let their imagination get too ahead because they could become disappointed if they can't get what they always wanted.
The girls will probably never have one million dollars to go on a shopping spree, and this is fine if they can deal with it. Wanting things is not necessarily bad, everyone craves for something or another and expensive jewelry and clothing is what the two young girls crave for most. Symbolism The double rope chain of pearls can be used as a symbol of want. Both girls adore the pearls on there beauty and versatility of use with many different clothes. However, the price tag of two hundred fifty thousand dollars will keep them away from the pearls with their meager eighteen dollars and hour salary. The girls like the pearls, but not enough to cry over the fact that they are too poor for them.
They still although enjoy their game pretending they have them, and with their new founded extremely expensive taste, the rules were bent to ten million. This shows that they were never really serious, and that everything was just a game, because it is highly unlikely that they could come across that fortune..
