Internet Gambling Why is gambling such a problem on the Internet? There are plenty of reasons and you are going to hear all of them throughout this research paper. There are three main types of Internet gambling. There is the sports book, there are casinos and the lotto, and last but not least there is horseracing. Throughout this paper I will explain the Laws against online gambling. Why people can get around the laws, and the style of gambling and how to do it.

I think that online gambling is fine the only person you could hurt is yourself. First I will explain the Horseracing betting online. I don't know whether you have been to the horse tracks before. It is rather simple you pick one to three horses that you would like to bet. The hard part is when you actually go to the track you have to learn the slang terms for the bets.

You have to say the track name and the money you want to bet then the horse or horses. With online horse betting you just have to enter it in on the computer. You can even watch a race on the Internet, its not like watching television, but you find out what horses win place and show. That's what really matters anyway. There is also a new form of horse gambling its on web it is a simulated horse race every month. You have to go to the web site and fill out some info.

You design your own horse, by choosing the color the name and, jockey. You pay $29.95 per month. You have to get on the website every day to feed the horse and train him. Then twice a month, your horse will race a simulated race and if it comes in win, place, or show, you will win money (4).

This form of online gambling is my favorite. My second form of online gambling is the casinos and lotteries for online gambling. These are everywhere. You can play everything that you can play in the actual casino. For example Black Jack, roulette, poker, slots, craps, and keno (3) are available online. Black jack is a game where you try to beat the dealer.

Poker is a game where you can play either way you can play where you beat the dealer, or you can play where your betting against other players. Slot machines are what I like to call a gamblers game for somebody that doesn't know how to gamble. All you really do is pull the lever and hope to win. Craps is where you put your money down roll the dice then try to roll that number again before rolling a seven or you lose. Roulette is when you pick a number and they roll the number and if you win you get 35/1 odds. Then there is the lottery online it's your typical lottery.

The state or organization running it will draw numbers and if those are your numbers you win. You can also check you real numbers from the gas station on the Internet as well. This is a very popular way to gamble on the Internet. This isn't really the way I like to do it but if somebody wants to take the risk then that's there choice. My third and final Way to gamble on the Internet is the online sports book. This is a really simple, but most dangerous way to gamble.

How it works is you call your bookie, or organization that runs the sports book. Then you find out a spread on a sports game. A spread is the amount of points an organization will give a underdog team to make it an even game, its called handicapping. For example the Cowboys are playing the Rams in football. The Rams are obviously going to win so the sports book will say the Cowboys will get 10 points. Then that means that if you bet the Rams they would have to beat the Cowboys by 10 points or the bet was a loser.

A tie is a push, which means nobody wins. The reason that this is so dangerous is because the average male thinks that he knows everything about sports and will throw big money on a game and lose, then he wants to quit but he can't. He wants to get back on top, before long he is addicted. Just like a cigarette. All forms are very addictive and very dangerous and the online world is making this so much easier on a gambler. They don't even have to leave the house.

Is online gambling legal? For online gambling to be legal or illegal is up to the state. The debate about online gambling is always changing from state to state (1). So Congress decided to do something because of the inconsistencies between the states legislation and enforcement (1).

Here are some laws that prohibit online gambling that you should know about. The Wire Wager Act This act prohibits the use of Internet to place bets. This prevents the use of a wire transmission facility to foster a gambling pursuit (1). It says any body who being engaged in the business of betting or wagering knowingly uses a wire communication or foreign commerce of bets or wagers or info on placing bets or wagers sporting event or contest.

Shall be fined under this title, or imprisonment of up to two years, or both (1). The second federal statute act is The Travel Act this act will penalize a person that travels interstate or foreign commerce or uses mail to further any unlawful activity (1). Unlawful activity is a business enterprise involving gambling (1). This applies to the Internet because of the Internet connection threw a wire. The last law that I will discus is The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. This act is basically to prohibit the gambling on a game in which a collage or professional athlete participates in (1).

In November of '99 the U.S. Senate unexpectedly turned its energies to an Anti Gambling Bill (2). Sponsored by Arizona's Sen. John Kyl. Kyl extend on the wire wager act, sent the bill to congress and it was a unanimous decision (2). Just to prove that the fight is still going on. There are some enforcement problems with these Internet laws. You see first threw the Internet is very hard to trace the activity.

They can also take place overseas that is normally happens and the United States cannot do anything if they don't come over here (1). With virtually every state allowing one for of gambling mostly the lottery, how could we go to another country and join alliances to prevent any type of gambling (1). Another effective way to hide is to use a sophisticated encryption and stop using credit card- based deposit system to hide them selves (1). The government had an option that is still debated and that is to force the Internet service providers (ISP's) to block access to gambling sites (1).

If the government finds a way to stop online betting there will be a way around it with the technology we have there is always a Lupe hole, so the safe bet is that online gambling will go on (2). The on going battle between Internet gambling will probably never stop. Some people believe that gambling is a natural need, and that it teaches people to take risk every once and a while (2). The main problems with online or any gambling is that people don't take it seriously and some take it very seriously and some times ends up in death or beatings once one thing illegal happens then there are more to follow. It's hard to find a person how did it because it was normally hidden because it was an illegal activity. Throughout this piece I described the three main types the laws that try to prevent online gambling and the ways around it.

I myself love to gamble. I really don't do it over the Internet, I prefer to go the site and gamble. Maybe that is my way of saving money some times, the Internet seems to easy to just not really care about or really realize what they where doing with there money. Like I said before it's your money, as long as you have it, do what you want with it.
