The game of football only requires 22 men, but only one man can be the running back. The running back position is considered the most prestigious of the game. To be a great running back in the N.F.L. you must possess certain qualities such as: speed, strength, agility, field vision, quick feet, and good stamina. Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, and Marcus Allen all possess these qualities and are three of the best running backs the National Football League will ever see. Detroit's sporting hero, the best Lions player ever, one of the greatest running backs in NFL history; Barry Sanders is a great running back, but don't take my word for it; his stats alone explain the life of a man who now is considered to be a "don" of all running backs. With 2,566 yards, he holds the record for rushing yards in a season. Furthermore, he has been elected to the Pro-Bowl 13 times. Barry Sanders has more records than any running back. He is also known for his charitable works done through the country. Barry Sanders is one of the greatest people to grace the field with his presents and the game will always be grateful. The name Walter Payton is one that needs no introduction.
He was the NFL Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player in both 1977 and 1985. His list of accomplishments include catching 492 pass receptions for 4,538 yards, 15 touchdowns, and passing 34 times for 331 yards and 8 touchdowns. As you can see, Walter Payton is one of the greatest players ever. Walter Payton is a class act, and will always be remembered as a pioneer on the gridiron. Marcus Allen is a man who commands attention every time he steps on the field. Marcus is the only running back that is just as dangerous catching the ball out the backfield as he is running the ball.
Holding records that range from most catches in a season to most yards in a season; Marcus Allen is the most divers running back the N.F.L. has ever saw. Marcus also has donated a lot of money to different foundations. To be considered one of the greatest running backs of all time you must posses the qualities not just of a good runner, but also as a good person. All three of these men posses those qualities and are the greatest running backs of all time.
