Compare the debates that took place over American expansionism in the 1840's with those that took place in the 1890's, analyzing the similarities and differences in the debates of the two eras. The 1840's and 1890's saw an expansion of American territory, as a result of several economic, political, and cultural factors. The expansionist movements of the 1840's and 1890's were similar in their justifications, but the arguments against each differed greatly.
