Part Of Your Culture example essay topic

Attitudes and Characteristics I believe that the two most important attitudes someone must have when he is in a cross-cultural experience are an eagerness to learn and a readiness to give as well as to receive. I believe that if someone really wants to learn then all the more easy it will be for him to learn. He will learn to understand and only through understanding will they be able to accept the culture they are in. If they don't want to learn then they will spend their whole time criticizing the culture they are in and therefore they will certainly not be someone any one will want to be with or help. Someone must also be willing to give. This doesn't necessarily mean in the material sense although that could be a part of it.

I mean that when in a different culture it is good to give something of your culture such as knowledge or even food recipes. I don't mean that you should compare your culture and try to prove it better. I mean that you can look for similarities so that you can identify with the culture you are in. If you give of yourself to someone else of another culture they will notice it and because of that they will try to help you as much as they can. They will accept you and guide you through your adaptation.

So not only will you be giving part of your culture but this will help you in receiving of the other culture. As for the characteristics best to have I believe that the two best are a laid back person and a humble person. One mustn't go into another culture ready to criticize. You shouldn't criticize another culture, you should be humble about your own. Instead of comparing things in your culture with that of the culture you are in you should see the merits of the culture you are in.

A patient person will learn to adapt far easier then one who is always impatient. He mustn't push his host rather must be at his host 'mercy'.
